John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LA (2024)
Hilarious and well made!
What a refreshing show! In my opinion the talkshow format has sadly been played out for a while. Modern talk shows lack the spontaneity and natural feel of what made people like Letterman so great back in the day. John has revived that spirit in his show and it is a joy to watch! Art meets comedy meets absurdism meets genuinely interesting conversation. I hope the show is rebooted, and I would love to see him take it nationwide. As a biased Chicago resident, it would be amazing to see John do a Chicago run!!
Kudos to Netflix for putting this on and kudos to the producers and writers who contributed to this amazingly quirky piece of work!
In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon (2023)
Extremely moving!
Paul and Alex Gibney did a beautiful job...tastefully done, showcasing different eras of Paul's incredible career
It was awesome to see behind the scenes of Paul's process...I liked the chronological approach personally
A true portrait of a resilient, brilliant artist whose songs have moved us for years!
The only thing that could have enhanced the experience is an Art Garfunkel interview but obviously that would have been tough to pull off! I'm probably asking for too much!
I hope to see Paul live someday...hopefully his hearing improves and he can tour Seven Psalms. It would be a treat to see
Thank you Paul for your contributions to our culture
Ryan from chicago.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
Fun, goofy movie
Fun watch! Saw it at the Alamo in Chicago. The movie did not take itself too seriously and was a refreshing sub-90 minute run time...if you can believe it nowadays!
Solid chemistry between the two starts, plot has some fun twists along the way and the movie ends in a hilarious fashion with a big Matt Damon appearance
The dialogue was rock solid (would expect nothing less from a Coen film) and Margaret Qualley gives a another charismatic performance
Hope to see more short and fun popcorn flicks like this. With things as crazy as they are, movies like this are important
Go see this in theaters and enjoy the laughs!
Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson (2021)
Excellently made
Surprised more people are not talking about this show...it is extremely well made and it showcases the "how" of music. If you want a glimpse into what makes music so magical, watch this show.
Shining Girls (2022)
Solid thriller
Sure it's a little slow at times but the atmosphere and storytelling are top notch. Recommend for anyone who likes thrillers....moody direction and acting and plenty of twists and turns. Cool to see Chicago instead of NYC or LA as well.
Where Are You, Jay Bennett? (2021)
Great documentary
I saw the premier in Chicago and enjoyed the thorough, emotional filmmaking. Jay Bennett was a musical genius and the filmmakers did a great job showcasing his unique personality. Highly recommend this for Wilco fans or music fans in general.
