The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
A big tease & misleading because of marketing
The trailers all kept saying "Antonio Soprano" and I thought I was going to see a lot more of young Tony, but that wasn't the case. It was a lot more about Dicky and I was so curious to see Tony being taken under Dicky's wing similar to how Tony takes Chrissy under his. If that's what you're expecting you'll be very disappointed. Dicky wasn't strong enough of a lead for me, after hearing so much about him in The Sopranos, I was a bit disappointed by him. He was no different than any stereotypical wise guy. Now, the positives, the portrayal of Livi, Sil and Junior were great. Johnny Soprano was good but underutilized. I wish the movie had focused more on Junior or Johnny if it wasnt going to focus on Tony. It set up the potential for a mini-series or a sequel because so much is left unexplored. Such as young Tony's early panic attacks, Tony missing the heist with Tony B, Carm & Tony's early years, etc. Michael Gandolfini's portrayal of his father's famous role showed a lot of promise and I look forward to more because we all know there will be more. Many Saints is good and gets you excited for more of the Sopranos world but it's a tease, a BIG tease!
Shingeki no Kyojin: Assault (2021)
Masterful, EPIC and stressful
This episode has just about every major character in it. It's edge of your seat intensity. It was so good I watched it twice back to back. AOT has had a lot of great episodes, but this might be the GREATEST episode ever!
Kotetsujo no Kabaneri (2016)
Solid show, rushed at the end
If you like AOT it's got enough in common to make you watch but it's differences make it its own show. However, it's not as well fleshed out as AOT. The characters such as ikoma, ayame and mumei are interesting but they could use more character development. Also, i actually like the pop rock with the action scenes, it's different. The threat of the Kabane though suspenseful and compelling isn't explored well enough to me. Maybe I missed something but the show doesnt explain where they come from, how they came to be and how exactly the main antagonist uses them. The threat switching more so from kabane to human is a bit jarring because it happens quickly. The show is good especially the last 3 episodes which are exciting but they are rushed. A lot happens and i feel most shows would've stretched those last several episodes into 6-9 episodes easily. 12 episodes isn't enough to adequately flesh out the show but to keep it short I feel like 20-24 would've done it. Some motives, back stories, etc are cut short or i feel ignored entirely but otherwise an enjoyable fast paced show. A solid 8.
