Palindrome (1993)
Excellent film.
A technological tour-de-force where both audio and visual tracks contain forward and backward components. As a true palindrome, the film unfolds towards the center, at which point the same images and audio are played backwards. Normally, this might be merely disturbing and oddly interesting, but the film maker makes it fascinating, using all possible facets of sound and motion in forward and reverse direction. As an example, the opening scene is of a man getting out of bed and getting dressed. The forward audio is a morning radio program, and we are encouraged to ignore the simultaneously playing backward audio. As the closing scene, it becomes a man getting undressed and into bed. The now-forward audio is vastly different, and the now-backward audio is ignored. An incredible movie.
