Confession d'un dragueur (2001)
A great put down of political correctness.
-Alain Soral already hated by hard core feminists has written this great piece of fun. Thomas Dutronc is up to the level of his famous father (Jacques), Said Tegmaoui is very good too. If you are not completly brainwashed by pc propaganda you will dig this film. Confession d'un dragueur is definitely a breath of fresh air in a conformist french artsy/fartsy post modern agenda. A must see.And get Alain Soral books too!
Mon curé chez les Thaïlandaises (1983)
This movie breaks the rules of modern cinema, a masterpiece!
-Mon curé chez les Thaïlandaises is a movie from a rebelious mind. This Hard edged "satire" of Tourism and tourists let us gaze Thru marvelous locations with a pristine quality photography (stunning colors for example). The plot is sophisticated built, i'm sure it's a tribute to the work of Jean-Paul Sartre and particulary to: "l'étre et le néant. A must see for all the lovers of french: "nouvelle vague". Maurice Rich is not only a fabulous actor (like Brando they have the same weight) but as well a true of Jean-Paul Sartre (if only he was more fatso). If you pretend to like cinema you can't pass this masterpiece over and if you think of this movie as a silly nonsence you are right too, that's why it's a wonderfull piece of art... I suppose that both director and scenarist have decided to make this flick after reading some Sartre and over drinking bad wine sessions..This film is like a hangover, and to base someone work under such rules is not a bad idea...
Diabolik (1968)
Mario Bava masterpiece
Danger Diabolik (as it was called in france my homeland) is of special nostalgic value as it relate to a well known italian Fumetti (that's italian for comics) for adults. Of special interest is the "présence" of Michel Piccoli as he is more used to art-house cinéma and was probably there to pay the bill, lucky him as it's probably his best movie. I think the comparison & the 60's Batman lack the truly decadent edge and Dandy aesthisism of Bava of whom can be said that his art got more and more weird and baroque by each film. Danger Diabolik is a must see and a cult in itself, Jonh Phillip Law & Bava being praised by the Beastie Boys (see the "Body moving video") and Roman Coppola (see the CQ flick). Reading lately a J.P.L interview i have discovered that the part of Eva Kant should have been played by Catherine Deneuve but that Bava didn't like her acting, so Marisa Mell should deserve a rehabilitation as J.P.L!!!!!!!!
