The Real reason James Stewart died 1 or 2 days after Robert Mitchum..it was a Vengeance Vendetta
3 August 2022
The Real reason James Stewart died 1 or 2 days after Robert Mitchum..it was a Vengeance Vendetta. In 1978 the starred in british film called 'The Big Sleep' sort of Philip Marlowe-esque detective film..with British peep-show plot. Jimmy Stewart, dedicated fine actor he was vowed never to start in a film with nudity. Mitchum didnt give a crap, every woman & actress desired the rough, brawn image of Mitchum. To Satisfy British audience gate attraction draw..the film director required female frontal nudity (Candy Clark...of "American Graffiti, blonde air head actress") which top British poplarity Mitchum's influence over-ruled James Stewart disagreements. Stewart obviously vowed to get even with Mitchum 'in death' and die 1 or 2 days afterwards in the future, whenever that day arrived. Hence, Jimmy Stewart could rest assured he acting legacy tributes would 'outshine Mitchums legacy tributes'. Weird as it sounds. Listen here, the USA military might respected Mitchum's over the top war film bravado bravery courage and arrogance alot more than the Touchy Feely sometimes Wimpiness of Mr. Stewart, eventhough Stewart rose to the rank of Lt. General in the US AirForce.

excellent cinematography, showcasing Southern Folks love of Florida Swamplands Bijous.

Now i see how Jeff Hunter was selected for the lead role in 'King of Kings' 8 yrs later. 1rst, for the quaint prayer he said after thinking Mr. Brennan died due to a Cotton Mouth snake bite on forehead (while drinking swamp stream water). 2nd, for undergoing the beating up suffering he went thru vs the Jack Elam /willWright posse gang. Once, again Ms Peters as Tom Boy Beautiful as ever (just like in 'Broken Arrow'), and the athletic 1rst macho woman iconic role and role model for Scarlett Johanssens Black Widow role decades later, they even Look Alike. Puppy Dog sad eye look.

Actress Rita moreno says it was an Awful film..in a recent interview (on youtube), and had to fly herself in between filming to attend the 1960/61 Academy Awards from Manilla, to Los Angeles, CA, for her previous film 'West Side Story'. She thought she had a 'slim chance' to win eventhough the industry Favorite Judy Garland was also nominated for 'Judgement at Nuremburg',,, but at the time was in the hospital. .

Lead actress Kathleen Turner got Burts Bad side, while Theresa Russel got his good Side...yet there nearly Identical..What gives?
6 June 2019
So we agree that 'Physical Evidence' actress Theresa Russell turns in a sub-bar performance acting along side Legendary Burt Reynolds. However any hollywood fan would agree that actress Theresa Russell and actress Kathleen Turner could pass as sisters with Kathleen being the 'sinister one'. So, why is it that on 1988's 'Switching Channels' film with Burt Reynolds, Kathleen Turner, and Christopher Reeve, that Kathleen suffered Put-down and insult from Burt Reynolds to the Point that Superman had to intervene and tell Burt to 'stop it'. If Ms. Turner and Ms. Russell look like mirror images of each other, and Burt go along great with Ms. Russell, then why didnt he get along great with Ms. Turner. Obviously due to Ms. Turners' tough-woman anti-Man stance that she gloriously display in 1989 'War of Roses' film with Michael Douglas....unlike her 'Romancing the Stone' superb acting film appearance. Hence, we all agree that Ms. Turner was a better actress than Ms. Russell. Burts' acting buddy Ned Beatty was in this film as was he on 10 other Burt films.

Norma Rae (1979)
Sally field showed 'Norma Rae' potential in the 1976 TV film 'Sybil'
25 April 2017
Excellent film, several yrs prior to 'Norma Rae' sally field took her acting abilities to a higher level with her performance in the 1976 made for TV film 'Sybil', essentially a remake of 'the Three Faces of Eve'. In fact, Oscar winning actress Joanne Woodward who won Best Actress for this latter film, was a Supporting actress in 'Sybil', an d portrayed the Therapist Counselor medical Expert working with Sally Field. Nonetheless, one of the Great "Travesties" that Actress Sally Field did upon winning the 1979 Oscar for Best Actress was forgetting to thank the love or her Life (at that time), Burt Reynolds ("who was in the audience seated next to her") during her acceptance speech. 21 yrs later, in 1998, Actress Julia Roberts would repeat the same mistake by forgetting to thank her Live-in-lover Actor Benjamin Bratt ('who was in the audience seated right next to her') during her acceptance speech, in winning Best Actress for 'Erin Brockovich' (2000).

Both actresses upon received the script and looked to their lover and said "DO YOU THINK I CAN DO THIS PART?...I Don't THINK I CAN, I'VE not DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE.....OH DO YOU REALLY THINK I CANDO IT"?. Wisely, both Burt and Benjamin (TV series leading man) both told their girlfriends,..honey you can anything you can put your mind to....that's why i love you. Both actress auditioned for their respective roles...AND the "Rest is History".

Pretty Good Film and very similar to an old 80's favorite "Midnight Run" (Dinero & Grodin)
8 May 2015
Pretty Good Film and very similar to an old 80's favorite "Midnight Run" , (which grossed $38Million in '88, comparable to $300 Million in today's dollars) starring Robert Dinero, Charles Grodin, and tough guy Dennis Farina (one of the best hard-nosed tough character actors of the last 30 yrs). Similar to Reese Witherspoon's Role of the Police Officer transferring Beautiful Vengara as a key Protective Custody Criminal witness person across multiple state lines, back in 1988 Federal Marshall or BOunty Hunter Robert Hunter had to transfer Mafia Accountant Charles Grodin from Coast to Coast. "Hot Pursuit' has a lot of High Speed car scenes A great Climatic end scene with Mob Boss Dennis Farina made "MidNight Run' funny and gutsy, just like "Hot Pursuit"'s high speed chase scenes, Reese using a Gun, and provocative sensual chemistry of both leading ladies makes this film fun to watch, as well. Hopefully it will garner will more $$$ Revenue than Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthey's 2013 hit film 'Heat' which grossed $159 Million.

Excellent Film..(the English 'dubbed' version) as I recall
16 February 2015
Excellent Film (the English 'dubbed' version) as I recall, in the Los Angeles / Southern California, region it was last shown on TV on KTLA (Channel 5) late night back in early 1980's. It is almost on par with Director David Leans' 'Lawrence of Arabia' and director Sergey Bondarchuk 'Waterloo' (Rod Steiger) as majestic Battlefield films capturing regalia, nationalistic unity, interwoven story lines, and excellent cinematography. To own a copy is a prize possession. That Director Vicente Minnelli was married to a US Entertainment icon did not deter him from paying tribute to his homeland (Italy) through this masterful film.

Very Good Imaginative Plot Film
12 March 2014
Actor Joseph Cotton, a his 2nd surreal genre film following "Portrait of Jeanie" with another brunette beauty of an Actress. The surreal nature of this film comes from memory recollection scenes, sleep walking premise, extreme sensuality by Actress Loretta Young, and even several odd overdubbed songs that are similar to the 1951 famous hit 'How High the Moon' by Mary Ford and Les Paul. Great supporting acting from Jim Backus, "Mr. Howell". The viewer can only wonder if months after filming 'Key to the City' with her true love Clark Gable, Ms. Young insisted on continuing the feeling with another thoroughly romantic film. Indeed, Actor Joseph Cotton is hardly miscast but does very well, albeit he is among few actors who have filmed with the loveliest leading ladies of his era, like Jennifer Jones, Ms. Young, Ingrid Bergman, Ava Gardner, Jane Russell, and Rita Hayworth. Only Actor Michael Douglas has achieved such a similar feat in today's Hollywood. Lastly, the Long Beach Cyclone Roller coaster scenes are great historical footage and a pleasant surprise.

Great Performances from everyone...in this Horse themed film
11 March 2013
Great Performances from everyone...in this Horse themed film, in addition to British Coronation parade scenes, as well. A true gem of acting chemistry between Leading man Cornel Wilde and leading lady Maureen O'Hara, who performs an surprising emotional crying scene with perfection, even better than actress Halle Berry, Oscar winning 'Monsters Ball' cry scene. However, beautiful actress Helen Walker just about steals every scene she is in with her esquisite beauty, ultra-confident charm and Wit. Lastly, I was amazed by the 1940's era Cardboard Periscope binoculars being utilized as a device to view a parade from behind a massive crowd.

Great Pairing of Intelligent /Funny James Coburn w/Shirley Maclaine
28 July 2011
Recently bought a ebay DVD of this film, and like the pairing of JCoburn & Shirley, as the professional physician contempories who become attracted to each other. One of hilarious early scenes has JCoburn driving in the country side in a convertible sports car, then upon upon gazing at Beautiful Shirley galloping on a horse along the road ..he loses track of the windey turns and crashes into a fence, only to have Shirley come to his aide, being a doctor. Certainly no HOF acting yet given the free wheeling love relationships of the DISCO crazed late 70's, the movie certainly captures the time, as does a similar film "The last Married Couple in America" (GSegal / Natalie Wood) of the era. Plus, I'd bet that the "King of Cool" In-Like-Flint actor with the best "Raised Eye-Brow Look" and best deep voice in Hollywood was also among the romantic suitors of Ms. MacClaine, as she interluded on Oprah, recently. Incidentally, this film was a break from the Ultra-adventure, action packed genre movies that JCoburn was doing thru much of the 60's, 70's, & 80's. I recommend it++,..and to the Republican reviewer who commented 'not to waste your time', I say 'do you remember the 70's ?' Drop the trite 'it was a smokey time' excuses, and don't deny that era didn't happen, and smile with recollection.

Great Korea War film,,Albeit somewhat unemotional Mitchum,,,but that's Mitchum Tough
17 November 2007
A real good Korea war film that captures the realism and tough decision making without it being a 'Combat TV' show look-a-like. Renting it and watching with my father, a Korean war veteran, on Veterans Day 2007 was great. Still, that one segment in the movie with the terrorist hiding among a line of hundreds of Korean refugees and seeing US sends Cannon shells among the crowd was gut wrenching. Nonetheless, the actual F-94 Starfire jet Scenes were the most footage ever shown in a Korean war film more so than "Men of the Fighting Lady" a distant second.Lastly, the casualty footage for a '51 /'52 was shocking. However, that the film contains a Romantic storyline & some comedy relief by young GI Gomer Pyle type soldier was amazing for the Director to squeeze these items in this film. This film, IMO, is one of better Korea war films along with "Retreat Hell" with Frank Lovejoy, along with a couple other films like "Pork Chop Hill" with Greg Peck.

The movie is great for dealing with an intangible 'the Sun',
17 November 2007
The fact that this Sci-Fi movie deals with an intangible , The Sun, is enough to fully applaud this movie for its mission & plot. In addition, often Sci-Fi future movies fails to support any notion that futuristic space crews will be representative of many nations not simply the USA (aka the First spaceship on Venus). Plus, Seeing veteran Western actors Chuck Heston and Jack Palace, was great and disproves such notion that actors should make films within 'popularity genre', in fact, this may be been Mr. Heston's 5th or 6th Sci-Fi film, "we mortals are not worthy for such an honor". Heck, even legends Kirk Douglas and 007 Mr. Connery have done several Sci-Fi's films, as well. However, the contemporary cast of Tim matheson, Schofield, and Haywood did an excellent job notwithstanding. I say, rent the movie.
