The Diplomat (II) (2023– )
9/10
Once again the imdb user reviews are on point.
14 May 2023
The worst part of the diplomat season 1 is that it ends on a cliffhanger. I legit thought to myself: "Wait that's it? I want more!!"

The main story of the series is interesting and has its own twist and turns.

The relationships of the main characters keep you guessing when they are lying (even to themselves) and when not. In the same way the main story changes unexpectedly the writers reveal new infos that suddenly make you somewhat switch side and see each of the characters in a new light. You keep wondering who is "the idiot" in this broken marriage.

The cherry on top is that the diplomat is somewhat a better "spy movie" than some James Bond movies because it shows a more realistic take on what diplomacy and spying in the real world actually is.

Believe the rest of these reviews. I will ask my search engine when season 2 comes out once I have hit submit.

A lenghty movie that should have probably be a series.
14 April 2023
As other reviews here have already said, the sequel to Avatar like the first movie is visually stunning.

With its three hour runtime it sadly creates a story that is rather uninspired. Not bad. But uninspired.

The humans come back bigger after their last defeat. An to be expected premise. But sadly with no real twist and turns other than the return of old characters.

The movie then runs for 3 hours with various subplots being implemented that are in of itself interesting but often do not really contribute to the main story. With these subplots it feels like a series format would have been a way better suited choice and given the story additional breathing room to explore more of these side plots.

Because many of the new characters are interesting and would deserve it.

But instead the movie cramped it all into a 3 hour runtime and ended effectively on a cliff hangar with no solution to the conflict. A mistake that the first movie didn't make.

Once again a movie which wants to propagate the notion of American exceptionalism.

You take a very bad person with a very bad goal (kill millions of people) and let his motivation be real actual problems in the real world.

It diminishes the causes people are fighting for in our real world. Tries to shut them up by personifying these issues into the evil bad guy.

When the evil bad guy explained himself and his reasons I agreed with him. Not about the solution (Killing millions of people) but about the problems (Different forms of inequality and injustice). So that makes me wrong in the eyes of this movie?

People are hurting in the real world and this movie makes a mockery out of it by painting a "patriotic" picture.

It is cynical and comical.

The Reviews here ain't lying

If you're a scifi fan like me you probably read the premise and be quite interested. Bruce Willis wasn't anything positive or negative for me but I thought it would be a sign of a high quality movie. Well... I watched the first 30 Minutes of this and... it's bad. Like really bad. It's not like this one thing in it is bad like for example the plot is a bit weak. But when you're at the point where even I critique the cinematography and color grading you have to be at a very low point to the degree of college-first-indie-movie-attempts-bad. This is usually stuff I can overlook quite easily because I don't notice.

This film basically has everything bad a film can have. From every category. Take your pick what you think is the worst.

On a list of a thousand movies you have to see before you die this would be in the top 100

I never saw another movie that answered questions about the world I had. This movie is not entertainment in the usual way. It makes your mind wander and ask yourself questions. What if ? No spectacle. Basically just one room with people talking. But it might be the most interesting conversation you will hear in your lifetime.

The 100 (2014–2020)

The only show I know of that is not afraid to leave its intial premise.

Warning: Spoilers
Tl;dr: Definitely one of the best written scifi series out there. There are better ones (depending on taste). But not many.

I have followed this series for since season 1 now. (Damn! 6 years. When you look back you almost cant believe it.) The reviewscore here is pretty accurate.

Looking back what I find most impressive is the fact that over the seasons the show is not afraid to leave its initial premise. Earth literally gets ruined and left behind. When looking at other series with this many seasons (Looking at you Walking Dead) you often have the problem of the same ol same old. The 100 doesn't do that. But this comes at a price to some sort. Characters get killed left and right which makes it hard to follow the relationships. Now in the last season, 6 years after the first, I was barely able to follow the story. There have been so many events. I envy anyone that can binge watch this. Buckle up and grab some popcorn! It will be a wild ride (with a satisfying ending).

Never seen a bigger plot stopper
6 September 2020
I only watched the first episode and not even all of it because I simply cannot accept the premise of this series.

There are certainly very good scenes in it with emotional depth.

But there are plot holes and then there are plot stoppers. Plot holes are those things that make you question the story, take you out of it and irritate you.

Plot Stopper are those things that literally make the whole premise entirely illogical and stupid. Things that make you say: "This whole sh** doesn't make any sense."

There is simply NO WAY any space organization whether private or government would send a team like that to be the first on mars, let alone do any space mission.

And thats it. Other reviews already have pointed out the details.

I made an imdb account to say:

This. is. stupid.
