The Fake Sheikh (2023)
Great character study
Watched this on Amazon Prime and the description made it sound like this guy was a fake scammer (similar to the Tinder Swindler or Inventing Anna) but not at all. While he was a fake, he did it as a journalist and was very clever in his undercover work.
The documentary displays that Maz was a complex character. He could be ruthless, but the results did some good. He also made sure his team were people that were like minded.
The interviews really made for a great narrative. Even some of the people who feel into the trap told their stories too. The only sad part is it didn't get Maz's side of it.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Great but underutilized characters
Users are throwing a lot of shade on this show but I really like it. Maybe because I haven't seen the film or read the books. Kind of feels like a modern day Perry Mason.
My only real qualm is that the supporting characters are a lot more interesting than the main character. Really think that Lorna, Izzy, and Cisco are completely under appreciated.
But overall a good show and I think I can say that because I'm really not into detective or law movies/television shows.
There is also a lot of complaints from users about the second season being worse than than the first but honestly I'm not seeing it.
False Positive (2021)
The real horror is sitting through this!
Agree with the comments that this was clearly a poor excuse if a Rosemary's Baby riff. And yes, please watch that if you haven't.
Don't know where to start. Wanted to find Ilana Glazer a chance to see how she would do in a serious role. Was very disappointed. She could not pull it off.
Second, agree with the comments that these are all very unlikeable people that are pretentious and not relatable.
If the story was good, can overlook those things but that didn't happen. Lazy and sloppy storyline and ending..I'm suspecting the writers or producers were like "let's send a message or theme and see if people get it". Whatever.
Don't bother with this. I can't believe the same streaming service that brings us Handmaid's Tale financed this.
