Avgrunden (2023)
OMG!
I was excited to watch this film because I do enjoy the odd disaster film. Boy, was I disappointed. Could someone please tell me how the son, Simon, I think, falls into a crack in the Earth out in a place called 'the rift' but then ends up at HIS SCHOOL only to be rescued in the end!
This film has got to be the worst mash up of plots and sub-plots I have seen in a long time. The disaster itself, the massive collapse of the entire town, actually takes a backseat to the family dramas. The parents' divorce, the mom's new boyfriend, the daughter's gay relationship problems, the son's anger at said parents' divorce, and the drama goes on and on. I really began to hate almost all of the characters, except for the boyfriend who basically seemed shell-shocked to be involved in this mess!
Good grief!
Ragnarok (2020)
Well...what happened?
I clicked on this series because I usually like Scandanavian films. And I had a vague understanding of the mythology. At first, I thought it interesting that the story was placed there and with high school students. I enjoyed the first two seasons for the most part, even though there seemed to be holes in the plot you could drive a truck through. But the last season was just such a letdown.
So, let me get this straight. The whole thing was in Magne's head? The final episode actually made me sick. The crappy writers messed this series up royally. So, I guess the actors did the best they could with the script they got.
This was such a shame because it could have been great.

Well, it was great until...
What to say about this series? It was very good up until the last episode.
I really enjoyed this series. Up until the last half of the 7th episode and the eighth episode. The CGI was amazing and breathtaking. The character development was good for something that was so creepy. The acting was very good... for the most part. Story? Umm, this was where it struggled the most.
Was it horror? Science fiction? Or was it something else? I really cannot make up my mind.
The final scenes with Maura were a bit confusing. She was the creator, or so they said. Yet, she has no memory of .. anything? Sorry, I could not understand this.
Ozark (2017)
Julia Garner and Tom Pelphrey steal the show...
Julia Garner has Ruth Langmore down. Foul-mouthed trailer trash all the way. She was mesmerizing as Ruth, and especially in the final season. The scenes when she was remembering her lost family members was brilliant foreshadowing.
I have to mention the performance of Tom Pelphrey who played Wendy's brother Ben. The scene where he is talking about his life and all the mistakes he's made was masterful. I wept for him and all people hamstrung by mental illness. The scene was brilliant.
I really wish the series hadn't ended the way it did. There was obviously more story to tell. Like maybe Three could have killed Ruth's killer.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
Just awful
This film was a big waste of my time, and it was a waste of some talented actors. You want to create some sympathy for your main characters, but I really ended up hating Leda. She said toward the end that she was an unnatural mother. No kidding.
Who is the lost daughter? They are all lost daughters.

Don't waste your time
Let's talk about these characters. Some do believable things, but most of them are just wooden caricatures. For example, I can kind of understand the parents of the young boy psychopath killer drowning him. I mean if you had a child who you knew killed people for fun, what would you do?
Asa supposedly disappeared a year earlier. Her snowmobile is found in a cravasse, yet her body is found buried under a shack. And nobody seems perplexed by this.
And then we have Grima. Her twin shows up, paints her living room, screws her husband, and she does nothing! Oh then she and the twin decide to play a game of russian roulette!? Huh?
I think these writers should be ashamed. What a mess!
The Mauritanian (2021)
Truth?
As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Addicted to the series
This is a great cowboy/crime series. My favorite character though is Peter Weller as Lucian Connelly. Every time he is on the screen, he steals the scene. His voice and mannerisms say "I am a cowboy who was born at a different time". Everyone else is very good too, but Peter Weller is the best.

Hoping for more...
What can I say? This is terrible. I cannot understand how it even got picked up and produced. Everything about it is terrible. It is boring. The lead actor seems bored with the whole thing himself. It is dark and dreary. Now I have been to Amsterdam and I know it can be rainy and dark, but the lighting for this is terrible. And half of the time, you cannot even tell what is happening. I never saw the original so I guess I will have to watch it.
