I always like Sherlock Holmes
7 November 2020
People and animals begin to be murdered - their throats torn out - in a small town. The superstitious village folk think it's a supernatural monster. You can guess how well that idea goes over with Mr. Holmes! After many twists and turns it all comes out. I love the bumbling assistant - Dr. Watson and the quirky dialogue between he and Holmes. Not a 10-star but still fun to watch.

Mixed feelings

This was a gripper for certain. Bette Davis is stunning, frightening, psycho! This is a story of wanting what you can't have and not wanting what you do have! Lies beget lies. I only gave it 5 stars because the moral part of me didn't enjoy the debauchery of most of the characters!

Terrible
7 November 2020
A story of the life of a bull fighter. It begins with Juan as a young boy, already planning his future fighting bulls. He is arrogant and unlikeable. Sadly, he never changes and the movie ends with him still arrogant and unlikable. In fact only one of the characters, Carmen, has redeemable qualities. Don't waste your time.

I liked it

I found this movie captivating. The fact that the male lead also wrote, produced, and directed it made it even more interesting. Cleo Moore (Mary), steals from her employer, confesses and goes to prison. I'll say no more except that I was surprised by the ending. Mary was a sympathetic character and someone you cheered for.

Discovered a new treasure

Warning: Spoilers
I had no idea that this film existed until my husband just happened to record it on our TV. It only took a few minutes to realize that "An Affair to Remember" is a remake of this story. We both loved the witty and charming dialogue between Michel and Terry. We wanted them to get together and be happy. We did not like her self-sacrificing attitude after the accident. She made choices that should have been his! But all is well that ends well!! I actually prefer Cary Grant to Charles Boyer and my husband liked Irene Dunn more than Deborah Kerr. :)

Good title

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this movie. I did find myself getting sick of Betty Davis as Jezebel - her character was so wicked/evil - but that was the point. I wasn't quite happy with the ending. It seemed too heroic or something to fit with the rest of the story. Loved the young Henry Fonda.

Interesting in a weird way

Yul Brynner plays the same character as in Western World - robotic. And there were 3 guys who reminded me of the 2 hecklers on The Muppets - they provided some comic relief! I kept wondering where the story was going. However, I did watch the whole movie and I have to admit that I was interested in seeing how it turned out. T I'm not sure if I'm helping or hurting your interest in this movie!!

Not fast paced but watchable
1 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Jim (Ray) gets accidentally mixed up with 2 bank robbers - John (Keith) and Red. The bag of money is missing and the bank robbers want it back. Now Jim is on the run. He meets Marie (Bancroft) and she tries to help him. I liked the telling through flashbacks mixed with present day. I was worried for Jim and Marie because the bad guys just kept showing up and Red was a psycho!! It isn't fast paced - most noirs aren't - but I'd recommend it.
