I See You (2019)
The word "WOW!" keeps going thru my head!
I just finished this movie (12am 3/29/23), and as a fan of the psychological thriller genre, as I was talking about what I just watched with my husband and grown daughter, I kept finding myself saying the word "Wow" as in that movie was sooooo good! Probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, mostly due to the extremely thoughtful and clever story... surprising twists, suspenseful and intense moments. I wasn't sure I was going to like it 15 minutes in, but I stuck with it and I'm so glad I did. Don't worry it's not one of those movies that isn't very good until the last 15 minutes. I'd say it really picks up after the first 15-20 mins. And then just keeps getting better until the end and then... WOW!!!
House of Darkness (2022)
I don't understand the low rating!
So either people don't like the cast or they don't enjoy the genre or maybe some are giving reviews for the wrong movie as there's 1 or 2 others with this same title. Anyway, this movie was very entertaining, but as some have pointed out, it is dialogue heavy without big special effects, though there is some and they're gory. The story , acting, and suspense is very well done. There's probably 5 different sets or rooms used, but most of it takes place between 2 different rooms. It has a really neat twist on a classic tale that some may see sooner than others, but it's soooo good! IMO if you like shows/movies such as the old series Tales From the Crypt you'll probably enjoy this movie.
Falling for Christmas (2022)
It's a sweet funny romantic rom-com holiday movie
Don't listen to the negative humbug reviews out here on this one! I nearly skipped watching this movie due to only 5 stars & too many negative reviews; however, I'm glad I watched it as it turned out to be a very sweet, funny, and happy Christmas movie! I thought the cast was good, especially Lindsay Lohan, the male lead, the little girl, and Jack Wagner (remember Frisco from General Hospital? He's still cute!) I enjoyed the story, the Christmas decorations, music & holiday clothing. It was just fun to watch and I felt happy when the movie was over. It even has funny bloopers during the credits. I hope we get a part 2 next year with the same cast. It was just so good to see Lindsay in a good movie and I hope she continues to make family friendly rom-coms. Merry Christmas!
Rimeinzu: Utsukushiki yuusha-tachi (1990)
If you enjoyed The Ghost And The Darkness...
If you enjoyed The Ghost And The Darkness starring Val Kilmer & Michael Douglas, you'll probably enjoy this movie though nowhere as well made IMO. After seeing a story about the true story out on Youtube I was happy to find this movie listed out there as well. I hope after watching it that someone remakes it using today's special effects because the true story is such an amazing tale. As for the movie "Yellow Fangs," IMO it was well done for a 1990 release with a cast of good actors. For me the weakest part in this movie is the musical score throughout that seems all over the place. A couple times the music actually fits what you might think you'd hear in the background of a Japanese period drama/adventure/horror, but more often it sounds like really bad disco or techno music, sometimes like a video game and once I thought a Kenny G song was starting. The soundtrack reminded me of one of my favorite fantasy movies "Ladyhawke" which also has one of the worst soundtracks in movie history IMO. As for the man in a bear costume, it only shows up a few times throughout, but the director does use film of a real bear as much as he can and did a good job it it too. I also think the director did a good job using some "gore" effects with the brief shots of the costumed bear that made it better; however, the end scenes show the man in bear costume in longer shots so yeah, those few shots are not great, but it still didn't ruin the movie for me (or my friend watching it with me) because the story was so good and the actors believable which is why I've given this movie 7 out of 10 stars.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Do NOT listen to the haters!
I just finished watching this movie through Amazon Prime. My husband and I weren't sure if we should spend the extra $10 to own it so with such low reviews we decided to just rent it. Well now we'll have to buy it on DVD when it's released because this movie was EXCELLENT! I think people are either just hating it b/c Chris Pratt is in it OR there's 1 thing that happens in it that is complete sci-fi / fairytale stuff that could make the ultra conservatives give it bad reviews. Either way IMO I think bad reviews are coming from extremist on either side or cinema snobs that usually don't enjoy entertaining movies like Jurassic Park/World or POTC so IMO if you enjoy movies for entertainment, then give this one a try, especially if you are a fan of the Jurassic Park/World movies. I thought this movie was much better than part 2 and I may have enjoyed it better than the first JW and more than JP pt 3. It did what none of the sequels of Star Wars movies did, so I'm very impressed w/ the writing and directing of this movie so for all of these reasons I gave it 9 stars.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
Like a bad dream
I was enjoying the series until the finale. Now I'll just tell myself it was all a bad dream and Dexter is still in Alaska wondering how Harrison is doing in life. I'll probably re-watch the original series for a 7th time to help my wounded heart heal. :(
Judy (2019)
9 stars for Renee's superb performance
The movie is very good. It does a great job showing how sad & alone Judy really felt; however, IMO a life & star such as Judy Garland really needs a mini series as this movie shows so little. I would love to see Renee Zellweger star as Judy again in a series about Judy Garland's entire life as she was so amazing in this part. Her portrayal of Judy Garland broke my heart and made me cry several times. Definitely worth watching.
Midnight Mass (2021)
In a word...
AWFUL! All because of poor writing with a horrible ending that only "woke" people like Jim Carey would enjoy.
Omnibus: Dancing: A Man's Game (1958)
Gene Kelly demonstrates how athletes & dancers are similar
If you're a fan of Gene Kelly like I am you'll definitely want to see this episode. Luckily, you can find this episode cut up into 4 short videos on Youtube just do a search for Dancing A Man's Game Gene Kelly Omnibus to find them. They are entertaining to watch, especially seeing some of sports greatest legends such as Mickey Mantle and Sugar Ray Robinson interacting with Gene Kelly... very cool. My favorite segment was Sugar Ray and Gene tap dancing together. IMO this episode does a great job in demonstrating why dancers should be counted among some of the greatest athletes. Personally, I've never understood why the Olympics has not included dance such as ballet, modern/contemporary dance, Latin and ballroom dance which could include solos, pairs, and groups from each country to compete. I'm still hoping one day they will include dance. Until then I guess I'll just have to settle for wonderful old musicals, today's reality dance series, and old forgotten gems such as this episode to enjoy the sport and art of dance.
Unhinged (2020)
This movie in 2 words...
SCARY & INTENSE! Acting was very good. I would think anyone that sees this movie will think twice before honking their horn, flipping someone off, or yelling at someone that angers them while driving because you never know, the person you're going off on, may be having a worse day than yourself. Talk less, smile more, and be kind to others, especially while driving!
