Twister (I) (1996)
OH YEAH!
27 February 2002
Twister is a one great film. It's exiting, interesting, and has great characters. People say "It's nothing but special effects". This is not true. I found that my Favorite aspect of this film is the fact that it's about people who love their jobs. Their enthusiasm really makes the whole thing come together wonderfully. Another detail that really adds to Twister is the cinematography. The editing and camera work are outstanding. Some of the best I've ever seen. Altogether, Twister is one of my favorites simply because it is entertaining beyond belief. I would definitely recomend this one if you're looking for fun.

You can't be serious
25 February 2002
Oh dear, Oh dear. I started watching this not knowing what to expect. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There were times when I thought it was a comedy. I loved how the government's plan to capture the terrorist leader is to air drop in one man, who is unarmed, and expect him to capture him and escape with a rocket pack. If only it were really that easy. I've finally found a movie worse than "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

It's starting off great... Oh, false alarm, Kung fu movie
2 February 2002
This was no bad film, but some how, everyone knows kung fu. How? It seems that in every movie these days, it's just understood that all people know, and are good at, kung fu. It's not that easy, I used to take lessons, I know. It just seems kind of unimaginative to do that. Anyway, the rest of the movie was interesting. It reminded me of Sleepy Hollow. People are out to get a strange creature responsible for a number of killings. The movie, unfortunately, falls apart towards the end a bit. Visually, this film was incredible. There were many interesting shots and techniques used to bring an otherwise dull story to life. In terms of sound, however, it's just overkill. It seems that no one can do anything without a heavy bass "THUD", a loud "WOOSH", or an ear-splitting "CHING". Sound can be used to advance the effect of visuals, but this one went too far. All together, I'd say this film is worth the while if your not expecting a masterpiece. It's good, but you will almost want to cry when you think of how much better it could have been.

insulting
25 January 2002
Let's talk, for a moment, about the first one, and what made it work. Mostly, it was because it created a kind of "dream world" for anyone who was fascinated by dinosaurs. It did something that had never been done before; to show a realistic depiction of what a prehistoric world might have been like. However, this more recent edition to the "JP collection" was more like a monster movie than one about dinosaurs. Aside from the bad acting and extremely lame story, it simply failed to capture my imagination the way the first one did. It came across as just another horror flick, yet never scared me once (I was usually laughing during the "scary" parts). One thing I should mention is that today, with all that can be done with computers, special effect are no longer special like they used to be. Anyone can make a creature like a dinosaur look real. So it almost becomes a joke when someone makes a big summer film like this, and it has already been done several times before. Let's face it, we will never be surprise by seeing a dinosaur in a movie again, but film makers still seek to cash in on good movies like the first Jurassic Park by making unimaginative sequels. So, in short, I felt that Jurassic Park 3 was just another boring, unoriginal, cash in flick with possibly the worst ending in cinema history.

The Rock (1996)
OH YEAH!
23 September 2001
Let me say this to begin with- I decided that The Rock was my favorite movie even before I had finished watching it. With a well arranged plot, and an original set of characters, this movie contains everything a good action movie should. Sure, the plot was excellent, but that's not what saves it from being typical. It's the characters. This movie is more about the characters than it is about the action, unlike most recent action films. They all have their own motivations for what they do, even the bad guy. They should seriously re-release this movie. It's meant to be watched on the big screen. So, if you haven't seen this masterpiece, GO RENT IT NOW! I promise you, you're going to love it.
