365 Days: This Day (2022)
I can't even begin to describe how bad it is.
*im not an English native speaker nor a movie critic, but this one is so bad i HAD to write something about it, so excuse my possible mistakes
So...where to begin. What to say.
This whole movie felt like a music video with some beautiful visuals and landscapes and often people having sex in different locations. And if they weren't having sex, they were staring off at the ocean "meaningfully".
Now sprinkle a few sentences there and then and boom thats our movie.
I can't even understand how can anyone write or produce something this bad.
Characters- zero. There is literally nothing to say about characters as they are generic and so one layered that i think i would see better written characters in otome games. They have no past, no future, no thought process, no motives, no nothing. They are just here to make the "story" go.
I get that the idea is nothing new and it has the usual bad guy mafia boss and a beautiful but wild girl who gets in troubles and needs saving BUT couldn't there be a little more conversation? Was it so hard for the author to write a few pages from the perspectives of other characters and their insights? You have all the pieces: hot and cool male protagonists, wild and free female protagonist, they get married but are having communication and trust issues. Was there ever attention on those problems? Did our couple even TRIED to fight or argue about it once? No. Missed opportunity to easily gain some depth and add some drama to their dynamic to show us how each side feels about it, how would they defend themselves or what they think in general. Just no.
Next , and in my opinion the character with the most potential: the twin brother. (Again i know its a generic trope) It could've added so much if his tragic story was even a little bit elaborated and worked out. I mean he showed up twice?? But everything that's happening was happening because of him? "There is an evil twin brother with evil motives just go along with it"? I feel like there could easily be made up so much more to fill up the story a little bit. Hell, I feel like I could easily make up some character background and better plot. Was it so hard to write some sob story about abandoned child at least in attempt to make things seem more "DeEp"? Or something about hot and caring but cold and distant bad guy? Or maybe a few words from a woman who lost her unbound child? Im so pissed that there was like one minute talk about it in the beginning and then nothing. Everything is so flat and shallow.
I dont even know what to say about other characters: Olga and Dominic? What the hell. The gardener seemed nice in the beginning but it turned out to be fake and just like the rest.
I think i said enough about plot just by talking about characters but I MUST mention few other things. That shooting scene and Lauras running in the end had me literally laughing. And its so funny that near the end, they all meet up to "talk business" but 1 minute into the conversation they all somehow end up worrying about Laura and suddenly ending the meeting to go find her. That was a legit WT* moment for me. Mafia in this movie=🤡 . And Lauras mum who dramatically turns while leaving and says "don't stop me" while no one even moved a finger to do so? Also laughed. That little fashion show sequence? What was that about???
To sum up, this movie could have been your generic movie with average, kinda cringy plot and average characters that we've seen so many times, but it horribly fails to even do that and meet the minimum in every aspect. Instead its a 2 hour long music video. Its just terrible. I didn't think it could be worse than first one but here we are.
Hellsing Ultimate: Hellsing Ultimate, Vol. 7 (2009)
So...wow.
I will divide this episode in three based by the plot.
1. Violence and gore
This part is so good, that its unsettles you to the core. Shakes your feelings, grasps you and makes you feel as bad as the characters in it, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Shocking and truly gruesome . It is so phenomenal that you have mixed feelings- cant decide if it was so bad because it made you feel so disturbed, agog and uncomfortable or is it remarkable exactly because of it.
2. Emotions
This part gets you all in your feelings. After a very emotinal and sad parting, it amazes with a badass action and leaves you bittersweet in the end. That mid credit scene shows you the whole different side of the story.
3. Endgame (yes Avengers inspired me in this one)
"So...what now?" Well, this part anwers to all of your questions. It feels like an intro to next episode, which gives off a feeling of a grand finale even though there are 3 more episodes. The boss battle is approaching, as we see our 3 main parties in the war and whats left of them. Just one word: EPIC. The very ending leaves you completely crazy, cheering for the next episode.
May be one of the best anime episodes i've ever watched. Truly a masterpiece.
Hakuouki (2010)
Impossible to not get annoyed.
I love this kind of anime but i cant say anthing about this one because i stopped watching it before finishing the first season. I just couldn't stand watching the heroine develope NONE at all. Like zero. All the time she is the passive one who is saying nothing and doing nothing. I watched this a while ago (maybe a few months) but i clearly remember that i dont remember (lmao) her ever even forming a complicated sentence. About anything. Let alone something that has a complicated and deep meaning. She is so shallow it was annoying to the point i stopped watching. And oh my god she is so incompetent for ANYTHING. I understand that she cant wield the sword that good but she is not even drawing it when she is in danger and about to die. And everyone is jumping in and risking their lives to save her. And for what? For her to make tea for them. I really get it if she cant fight but then at least she should be intellectually interesting but she cant even give people around her any advice or opinion on anything. Thats how good-for-nothing she is. There are no deep thoughts or motivation involved. She is bland and i feel like she lacks character. Even though there are many beautiful boys around her (who are all way more smart and capable), i just couldn't ignore her and keep watching because at some point i started to get angry at how miserable her character is. Maybe she starts developing in later seasons/episodes but after watching her for a season im just not interested and beyond annoyed.
Akatsuki no Yona (2014)
Perfect anime. BRING ME SEASON 2 (a minor lil' spoilers that are not actually spoilers)
If you like historical fantasy animes with legends, kings, kingdoms, armies, dragons, very good action scenes and the handsomest! Boys this one is for you. Its sweet, its funny, but it is serious and its heartbreaking. Just the right amount of romance, adventure, humour, tragedy, fights, politics, love, and of course badass dragon warriors. The animation is beautiful. Yona has one of the best character developments I've come across in this type of anime. And other characters are so well written overall, they all have their own backstories and motives, no one is shallow or overlooked. Its a well crafted universe. The plot is coming together slowly but beautifully. Nicely done reverse harem where the heroine is not stupid, naive or overly dependent on others around her but instead she can decide for herself and in fact (well, spoiler!) is "the brain of the operation". She is noble, she is smart, she is courageous. We stan Yona.
I dont understand who in their right mind would not continue with the second season, especially while the manga is still coming out and there is enough content for at least another 2 seasons ( anime follows the first 47 chapters and right now there are 208). The story was so good and the first season was left with the cliffhanger so i HAD to continue reading the manga and oh boy what a good read it was. (Again, a lil spoiler) At the end of the season we are introduced to the yellow dragon Zeno and that is the point where the dragon warriors are finally gathered and ready to go rain down hell on Yonas enemies (symbolically speaking). And thats where they decided to stop. Just when things were going to get even more better. Such a shame, the later seasons would definitely be better than the first one. I hope someone will see the potential and set things right. MEANWHILE if you want to continue the journey I highly suggest you read the manga. It's really, reeeaalllyyy good.
P. S. If you plan on reading the manga later, dont watch OVAs because they will spoil the 104-107 (i think so but im not 100% sure) chapters for you. I recommend first reading it and then watching it.
Dark (2017)
Masterpiece.
I dont have any other reviews besides FREAKING MASTERPIECE. In every possible aspect, this series is a masterpiece.
