Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
A blockbuster worth watching for historical significance, yet lacking contemporary appeal
Indiana Jones, a classic of its era, presents a unique viewing experience that may not entirely align with modern cinematic tastes. The film, celebrated for its relentless action and adventure, might seem jarring to audiences accustomed to today's slower-paced, more intricately plotted narratives. While the movie was groundbreaking in the 1980s for its dynamic storytelling and exotic locales, contemporary viewers might find these aspects less remarkable given the advancements in film technology and storytelling.
One of the key challenges in appreciating Indiana Jones today lies in its approach to plot development. The film's narrative is driven by a series of rapid-fire events, which can leave little room for in-depth explanations. This storytelling style, while contributing to the film's fast pace, also results in numerous plot holes that might be more noticeable to a modern audience. These gaps in the plot can lead to moments of confusion and may prompt more questions about the film's production choices than its narrative substance.
However, it's important to recognize the film's historical context and its influence on the adventure genre. Indiana Jones was a pioneer in many ways, setting a template for action-adventure films that followed. Despite its perceived flaws when viewed through a contemporary lens, the film remains an important piece of cinematic history. Its impact on the genre and its enduring popularity suggest that while it may not meet every modern standard for storytelling and visual spectacle, it still holds a significant place in film history.
Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)
Great episode but not Black mirror
I gave this episode a 1 to get my point through. It was a really enjoyable episode but I watch Black mirror to be amazed by the ideas about what the future might bring and how it might all go wrong. Not to watch an 80s black comedy. Great episode just put in the wrong series.
To say a few words about the episode. It was predictable to some extent but still some parts of it were scenes which felt so authentic deserving great praise. It really connected to me due to the right wing waves that are currently sweeping over Europe.
Even though this isn't Black mirror I can without a doubt recommend a watch.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
A fantastic portrayal of a toxic relationship
In very few words and dramatic scenes we were made to feel the harsh reality of being stuck in a toxic relationship.
The movie doesn't have much a of a plot, but it really does shine with producing the convulsive feelings of being stuck with someone who dislikes you.
Albatros (2021)
An interesting insight into the life of a policeman with patriarchal undertones
A fast paced movie giving a glimpse into the scenes and decisions of an average policeman. Sadly the movie is held back by very weak female roles and leaves you with an unpleasant feeling of imposed patriarchy after watching the movie.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Good beginning and mid but ending was just silly
It has some high points but all in all a generally boring watch. Would not recommend anyone to watch it unless you really want to watch everything the Marvel universe has to offer.
Spectral (2016)
The worst piece of garbage I have ever watched
The first scene is ok and kind of interesting with the main character inventing some kind of laser to evaporate water.
The rest is awful. It is covered with bad acting, badly thought out dialogue and plot thought out over a coffee break. I wouldn't even mind all of that if just anything made sense. But sadly the movie goes from one outrageous explanation to another. I would almost have preferred that they blamed it on magic instead of trying to sound scientific.
If you are watching this or thinking about watching this despite the bad reviews just for an interesting sci fi explanation to a weird fenomenon, Don't. You will be severely disappointed and dissatisfied.
