Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (2023 TV Special)
Dude, just retire already.
31 December 2023
I'll be 45 this year and oh my god this was torture, worse than having to pretend to laugh and seem interested at what an 80 year old uncle will say at Christmas dinner. I laughed less than a random 10 minute tiktok session, which rarely makes me laugh.

Apart from his ability to tell a story, everything else is so off. And I don't mind a shocking but good lgbtq or disabled or whatever type of joke, but these jokes were so lame, he generally came off like a really grumpy old man who just has a problem with everything. I laughed hard with a line about a gay celebrity, and half a minute later he came back to it with a "gays ruin our children" mentality that only a 70 year old white man could think was a good second part to the first line.

The Gervais special was a bit mid but compared to this, it was a masterpiece, and he's in his sixties. The "dreamer", slap, and more personal stuff were quite good but I pressed play on a comedy special, not a tedx talk or a retrospective interview.

Matt Rife: Natural Selection (2023 TV Special)
Unbelievably bad
18 November 2023
Okay, I have laughed too hard with this guy on TikTok too many times but this is really bad, the first 20 minutes can easily make you turn it off, and beyond that it gets better but it's still bad.

I can accept that some comedians can only shine in a smaller an warmer crowd, but I can't imagine someone writing this script and thinking "this will do well". The stories are so long, uninteresting, and barely believable, and by the time the joke hits you're just sitting there with a straight face. By the 40 minute mark you'll just be waiting for it to end.

It's better that they stop promoting this and then try a second time next year, because I don't think many people will be watching a second special if they watch this.

Severance (2022– )
A masterpiece that's definitely not hyped enough
4 July 2023
I think most will agree that even the worst Apple TV+ shows are better than the majority of shows on other services. I expected something good after seeing the rating, but this is so incredibly well made and intriguing that everyone and their aunt would have an opinion on it if it was on Netflix. I get the complaints for the slow pacing, but to me that's a plus because it really lets the show get under your skin. After all, the acting, the photography, the sets, even the title sequence are all AMAZING.

I haven't read many reviews but I didn't see anyone else mention the first show that came to my mind while watching the first episodes, and that is the 1967's "The Prisoner", a show that was years ahead of it's time (the remake was kind of bad though) and made you think this much about certain things.

I just hope the writers' strike ends soon enough (with the fair demands satisfied of course) so that production resumes on season 2. And I also hope Apple lets the creative team fold it out as they wish to.

Yeah it's heartwarming and the cheesy fun is great, BUT...
8 December 2022
The special is quite good and I'm giving it a 6 but I could be giving it an 8, James Gunn and their cast really did their best, but... did we really need this from Marvel right now?

Especially after so much humor, campiness, and the overall "we're pretending to have fun making it" vibe of season 4, this is a bad idea even on paper. Marvel was never taking itself too seriously, which was a good thing and very suitable to the original material, but I feel somebody turned this up to 11 and it has killed much of the awe towards the MCU.

For example, the scene where the guardians land on earth feels like you're watching good cosplay, not actual superheroes. It kills the suspension of disbelief than you need in the "serious" parts of any future movies. Maybe if this came after some kick-ass Marvel show or movie, it wouldn't make me cringe as much, but the timing couldn't be worse.

After many mediocre projects and so much output from the machine in the past two years, it feels like every new movie, show, or special needs extra effort and self-conviction to watch. This will only lead to more and more people skipping on more and more theatrical releases (and of course entire series) and I can already see reboots coming after phase six.

How I Met Your Father (2022–2023)
Oh god this is terrible
31 January 2022
I'm 42 years old and all this made me feel like I was 20 and watching something written and produced by someone who's 42. After 3 episodes, all I can say is that literally everything except the theme song feels really wrong, cheap and rushed.

What did I just watch?
30 January 2022
Who on earth read that script and said "yeah I'll get involved"???

It's not a parody/spoof because most of it seems like something you would expect from a shorter version of the title, with no signs of exaggeration or humor of any kind. And it's definitely not a dark comedy or some kind of meta commentary about modern thrillers.

The last episode is unbelievably cringey in every way, like it suddenly goes in full parody mode and then gets serious again, and the ending scenes are trash.

The antidote to the pandemic depression
28 February 2021
I usually hate over the top goofy comedies, most of them make me cringe a lot at the chidish humor and the absurd plots, but this one felt very different. I don't know who would greenlight this because it is really bad on paper, yet it looks like it was made with so much love that it totally works in the end. When you think of cheesy comedies that you liked when you were younger, you know you wouldn't like them at all today, but remember them so fondly. This is the feeling this leaves you with. Not really worth paying a ticket, but it will definitely be adored by lots of people when it goes to streaming

Well that was horrible even by netflix standards
28 February 2021
The script is ok, nothing to lose your mind about (I haven't read the book nor watched the 2016 movie). The acting though, from almost the entire cast, is UNBEARABLY BAD and cringy. And the directing feels so "90s straight-to-dvd". Just skip it.

The Witches (2020)
Watch something else. ANYTHING ELSE.
24 October 2020
Some 80s and 90s family movies look incredibly cheesy and bad compared to modern releases... Well, now we have the opposite! The 90s adaptation is a masterpiece compared to this. It's incredible how many talented people worked on this mess. The cringiest thing about it is Anne Hathaway's accent, which jumps from Russian to German to Swedish, and it's never funny because she's trying too hard. There are many other talking animal movies that your children will enjoy, spare them, and don't succumb to the voice in your head asking "how bad can it be?". IT'S REALLY BAD.

Raised by Wolves (2020–2022)
SNAKES ON A PLANE(T)
24 October 2020
First 3-4 episodes are brilliant philosophical sci fi... It goes downhill extremely fast and in the end, it completely disappoints in every aspect apart from production, photography, and the female lead acting. Watch the first half and come up with your own ending

The Morning Show (I) (2019– )
This is awesome!
16 January 2020
Apple spent a lot of money and time on this show and you can tell that every minute you're watching. Plus the acting and writing talent is just oozing off this. I love/hate the streaming wars because we're getting incredible quality content right now, but this can't go on forever, the services will have to start making money someday, and the quality will start to match network tv. At least we'll be getting some really good shows like this for the next couple of years!

It's one of the better Adam Sandler movies
20 June 2019
This would've been extremely succesful in the cinemas and maybe a classic of the genre if it came out in the early 00s. It's an Adam Sandler movie so ignore people who just want to critisise everything and enjoy a solid 90 minutes of fun, jokes, action, plus some mystery in a great setting. Their chemistry is also unbelievable. You probably wouldn't pay a ticket to see it, but it's much much better than a straight-to-video/tv comedy. It's a natural fit for netflix, especially their 30-40yr old viewers. I can already visualize the sequel and I will happily watch that too

Maybe the saga should have stopped with IW and then rebooted....
25 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm all about suspension of disbelief, especially when I'm watching a superhero movie. BUT

A rat sets the whole movie plot in motion (so, Dr. Strange saw 14,000,605 timelines x 5 years each).

Aparrently, Thanos wiped all the waste collectors, or half the earth's population was so sad, they stopped bothering with trash.

An entire spaceship travels in time through a portal where people need a special suit and pym particles to do that.

One of the avengers could have gone back to find dr Pym and have him make more particles (or steal some) before the mission. Stress-free quantum time hops for everybody!

One of them could have just gone back to Thor and tell him to go for the head. But that would create a paradox and that is a no no. OR IS IT? Captain America travels back in time and lives the life he missed, waits for Peggy to die in a world without Captain America (but with one extra, deep frozen, Steve Rogers), and then returns to the original timeline, but before anyone has ever setup equipment for quantum time travel (or getting back from it). Basically he returns the stones so that no paradox is created, and then creates a paradox/new timeline to live in. Okay that makes sense.

Those that moved on with their lives are going to have to do so much explaining to their previously loved ones. Oh, and Spiderman Far From Home had better take place in 2023 because they already messed up with that timeline.

The movie overall is so fascinating that these, and other minor plot incoscistencies didn't bother me at all, the payoff in the assembling scene was SO worth it. The effects are incredible (apart from the Michael Douglas de-aging, that was a bit cringey). The feels when the original avengers close their character arcs are overwhelming.

Fat drunk Thor is welcome as a comic relief for 2-3 minutes, then it's just unbearable. Hulk Dab and Fortnite felt like 50 year olds wrote the script. The "female avengers" gathering at the same place same time in such an enormous battle could only happen in one out of 14,000,605 realities, one where Marvel is trying to force feed us feminism or akwardly trying to please women who were dragged by their boyfriends in the theatre.

Unlike IW, I won't be seeing this a second time in the theatre. You can show IW to someone who's only seen 2 or 3 Marvel movies after giving him some quick tips, and he'll be excited af by the time it's over. Show him EG which has half the characters and he'll probably be confused.

After the hype dies down, and a million Thor memes pop up on the nets, people will realise this is far from perfect, but it couldn't have been better because it had to close so many arcs and it had to contain time travel. And time travel is the price we pay for the masterpiece that was the IW ending.
