The Mandela Effect (2019)
I Guessed The End From The Beginning
This was NOT science fiction but total fantasy. As someone who has two science degrees I felt intellectually robbed.
Plus, there were two inappropriate sexual scenes that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie but seemed to be inserted for a social agenda.
Just about anyone can guess the ending from the beginning but I patiently tolerated the movie to the end to see if I was right - and I was.
The Mandela Effect is a gas lighting experiment that unfortunately many seem to be taken hostage to and believe because they are unwilling to do a bit of critical thinking. Social contagions are part of American society, unfortunately.
American Commune (2013)
Excellent Documentary For What It Does Cover
I don't want to have spoilers because this documentary will surprise you and that is a nice benefit to experience along with the large amount of information it provides.
What my wife, daughter and I liked was that the documentary shared the personal experiences of the two sisters and their parents and of a few others. That helped draw you in. It also did a good job outlining the hopes, aspirations and motives of the people who established the commune. Let me just say that they had good intentions in establishing this commune.
Having some knowledge of this commune I think the Mundo sisters left out some important details such as sanitation and hygiene problems, health and disease issues related to sanitation and to the huge consumption of soybeans and other plant material. They failed to mention the numerous wives their leader had and they skimmed over the underlying religious/spiritual tenets that led to hypocrisy.
I wanted to give the documentary a 10 out of 10 but I think in just an additional 15 minutes the sisters could have given a more thorough presentation. Still, it was a very captivating and very well directed and written documentary.
I highly recommend it.
A Matter of Faith (2014)
Accurate to the point of being a docudrama
I have two degrees in the sciences and used to be an atheist. When I started thinking for myself and doing the research I found that there is absolutely no credible evidence for the religion of evolutionism. Not only is there no science to back up evolution but there are many philosophical arguments that capsize this religion.
I can emphasize with the main character in that I too was fed a steady diet of evolution in college and I was to accept it as an axiom.
While this movie was obviously shot on a low budget, the presentation is accurate concerning free thinkers who go head to head against entrenched evolutionists who refuse any critical thought in the classroom.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED
I went into the theater with low expectations due to Marvel's blunders and wokeness in Phase 4. I was came away surprised and pleased with the story and the visuals. The movie is NOT woke, not in the least. No f-words either.
Very nice emphasis was placed on FAMILY and we need more of that.
The colorful and intricate visuals seemed to outshine Avatar and the large pallette of different and freaky characters in this sub-atomic universe made for a visual feast. Better than Star Wars!
Great action and great acting with all of the main actors getting equal time to shine. At least two plot twists. One or two of the jokes were cringe and there was one instance of TMI of a personal type.
A very good starter to Phase 5 and a good set up for what is to come. It was an adventure, a bizarre road trip of sorts.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
The REAL Star Wars Movie
I was very apprehensive when I went into the theater back in 2014 to see this movie. I mean, a talking raccoon, a weird looking walking tree, a muscle bound guy that looks like he has scars and tattoos all over his body just kind of put me off.
However, as soon as Quill lifted his arms with the music and the title of the film appeared above him I knew this movie was going to be great.
Director James Gunn managed to give every character decent development and within such a short movie. Incredible. The action, the humor, the emotion of Quill's loss, everything in the movie was great. This is my kind of Star Wars.
