Nightmare Alley (2021)
Super slow and boring
I fell asleep so that's how exciting this was. The opening scenes were intriguing. The Carny was interesting. He and Molly left and zzzzz. Care Blanchett is one of my favorite actors yet sadly I hated her in this. Hated her.
Tales from the Loop (2020)
Creepy retelling of familiar tales
Overall, I enjoyed all the episodes outside of one that was a bit slow and dragged. Definitely worth the watch, just not a ten because all of these stories have been told before. Still preferable to the redundancy of franchise films.
Landscapers (2021)
Fun to watch
This was in no way a serious crime drama. I enjoyed so much about it: actors were perfectly casted, the story was truly bizarre and they handled the portrayal of Chris and Susan's fantasy mindset was done artfully. The silliness reflected their mental immaturity. Dialogue among the detectives was a gem. I really loved seeing their development in the story as well.
Being the Ricardos (2021)
Can't play Lucy
Granted I came into this skeptical but the director was so assured that Kidman could play Ball. No way. Sorry. In the first two minutes it's hard to watch. Kidman was a money grab. She was chosen for her name and that's it. She sounds like a demented Australian playing a New Yorker in her high school play. She is too weak in character to play someone so strong, smart and feisty as Ball. Sorry. I like Kidman in many things although as of late her extreme plastic surgery has become a distraction and her weak breathy voice has become irritating. De should stick to playing damsels in distress. The director was a sell out. Ball would barf.
Station Eleven (2021)
Why does everyone want realistic?
Personally I've had enough of realistic and welcome a change. I don't know I guess there aren't any zombies so the kids are bored. I couldn't look away and became very invested in the story and the mystery to it. I have not read the books so I'm just enjoying this based on its own merits. I'm not sure why low raters think it's unrealistic. Perhaps many of them have never lived with a device in their hands and no longer value the soft arts? Where do you people think art, music and theater came from? The sky? No people went from caves to agriculture and with that came the development of the arts. Something I personally believe separates us from the apes...but whatever. The human spirit was meant to create beauty not wallow in dystopia and tragedy.
The Little Things (2021)
Terrible. Disconnected. Pointless
I watched this because of the actors. Do they not make good films anymore? Leto was good as the wackadoo he usually plays, but Denzel and Rami couldn't make an emotional connection if you killed their first borns. I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. There was nothing to make me care about any of these characters, which is a shame because the opening scene is good. You can just shut the movie off after that cause there's no point. The movie is an hour too long. My husband fell asleep and managed to wake back up before anything ever actually happens - an hour in. The only reason I didn't fall asleep was because I napped earlier that day, otherwise this movie is a treatment for insomnia. I give up. I haven't seen a good movie since Impossible. The studios are all recycled stories with uninspired acting.
