Reality (2023)
Useful idiot
The movie is beautifully made but there's just no story, no context, no depth.
The main character has a severe case of TDS and claims that she hates America. With the level of access she had, she could've done so much damage if someone clever found her before the FBI did.
Also, she could've avoided everything altogether if she denied everything or asked for a lawyer. Instead she just broke the law and then told FBI that she did.
The entire movie could've fit into a tiktok video, instead we're waiting for a big revelation that never happens. What were those constant pet dialogues about? What her Belize trip has to do with this? I expected her to be a real spy who fulled everyone, and instead she's just a useful idiot who got played.
Sound of Freedom (2023)
Until the last minutes I was hoping it's exaggerated
People say it's important, but not all important movies are also that well-made.
It doesn't do all the tearjacking stuff a movie on this topic could've used, but you gonna cry like a baby even if you're a grown man.
Some parts look a bit unrealistic and I'm grateful for that. That's the only thing that kept me together after the movie.
Child trafficking is a very important topic and talking about it is crucial for those heroes fighting it.
120 kids is still nothing compared to how many are still in captivity. Breaks my heart that the US justice system is focused on arresting online porn users, not freeing the children.
Barbie (2023)
Started good, then turned into a lecture
I really wanted to like the movie, and I totally enjoyed the first third of it, until it turned into a lecture on patriarchy. Women are portrayed as infinitely oppressed people who can't do anything except for crying about their existence.
Don't get me wrong, I expected it to be about feminism and empowerment, but not that awfully straightforward about it.
I could've been a great movie. A 10/10 movie, but it feels like the authors just hate men so much, they can't think of anything else.
I also feel sorry for all female executives at Mattel. The board of directors is portrayed as oppressively male-only, to maintain the narrative.
To sum up, you gonna love it if you want to feel sad and oppressed about being a woman. Not so much if you just like Barbies and want to have a good time.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
The movie everyone pretends they liked
I really wanted to like it, but sorry, I just can't.
First, the movie wants to be as original as possible but loses any depth on the way. It wants to be funny but the level of humor is so primitive and vulgar, it just makes you roll your eyes over and over. After they deliver a joke, they will make sure to explain and repeat it as many times as possible, because they're sure their audience is dumb.
I would've given a star for their makeup and costumes, but it's so artificial and out of place, it feels like the movie was too boring and they just robed a neerby drag queen store.
One star is for the main actress' performance and the second one is also for her performance, because there's nothing else in this movie.
Perfect Match (2023)
Too boring to handle
I love trashy reality but this show is just awfully boring. Everyone is there to promote their OF or boost their instagram profile. The challenges are what we saw in other shows so many times, dialogues are boring. The only reason to watch it is if you are really into one of the contestants, as all of them are from other Netflix shows (The Circle, Too Hot to Handle, LIB), but even though I really like Francesca, in this show she's not nearly as fun as she was in THTH.
Everyone looks uninterested and tired.
Tldr: the show lacks authenticity and is made to recycle the same old Netflix reality stars.
Keep Breathing (2022)
Great show ruined by wrong expectations
This isn't a survival drama. It's about overcoming childhood trauma, about parents-children relationships, about death and birth. A lot of the stuff isn't realistic, but that's not the point of the story.
I feel like this show is not for men, as most of the stuff isn't relatable for them and they get annoyed by the heroine lacking survival skills.
Life & Beth (2022)
Not for men or teenagers
I absolutely loved this show. It's kind, honest, relatable and very funny.
But it's not for men, just like Bridget Jones isn't. Nor it is for Gen Z who gonna miss most of the jokes. I honestly didn't expect much from Amy Schumer but was pleasantly surprised.
