El gran triunfo (1981)
Rigo + Elvis = El Gran Triunfo
This movie was made in Mexico at the height of Rigomania, while its not a great film it is filled with some terrific music. It was basically a movie built around a soundtrack. It parallels Rigo's life with him hitting the big time. Rigo always an admirer of Elvis Presley knew that making movies was good career move, at least financially. It is good to see him as still a young man and his music at peak form. The movie is fun, mind-candy. Great scenes of him in concert accentuate it. The dialogue is almost a word for word description of Rigo Tovar's success up to that time. A good film to see considering his recent passing this year.
Rigo, una confesión total (1979)
Rigomania!
I love this cat. Rigo Tovar had the right look, the moves, the music and adoring fans,no wonder he is known as "el idolo de Mexico" . This documentary shows him at the height of his fame. He is having a good time and making people happy. His music is a blend of cumbia, tropical and rock and roll. He even does a great cover of ray charles song. It is a well made movie,thought-provoking and sincere. The film quality is not great but you still get a great sense of the mania he caused in Mexico and other Latin American countries. And oh yeah, he got his start in houston, Texas! yay! A great film, good music and it looks like he's doing a moonwalk, years before michael jackson did it.
