Syriana (2005)
No Bad Guys in This Movie
I won't say that I got the idea of the movie because I didn't but what I can see that this story is not pointing any fingers to anyone (or maybe it points the finger to everyone). I find this very realistic and true because everyone in this world works for what they believe is the right thing to do. That doesn't mean that all of us don't make mistakes because everyone does.
The characters are so alive and each one has a reason to continue his/her path, the movie actually shows that. The conflict of interests is what makes these characters cross each other and sometimes try to eliminate each other. Believes are major drivers for each one in this movie which I liked a lot about the story.
As an Arabic man, I liked that a lot of the characters either Arabs or speak good Arabic language. The accents are not really perfect and in a lot of spoken Arabic scenes the version used is the Simple Arabic rather than the local accent spoken Arabic. In one of the scenes, George Clooney as Bob Barnes spoke some Arabic and the guy in front of him said that his Arabic is good, I tell you that I couldn't understand a single word out of George Clooney's mouth and it was obvious that he was joining the words into each other but still it was good effort spent from the actor and the producers.
I guess that deferent people can come up with deferent conclusions after watching this movie and to me this is a big plus for it but still it is not great.
The Pink Panther (2006)
This Movie Will Make You Laugh
I have never seen the 1963 Peter Seller's "The Pink Panther" but I have heard a lot about it and seen some documentaries about it in addition to the great movie "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers". On the other hand I enjoyed a lot of the animation cartoons of The Pink Panther.
When I watched this movie, I laughed a lot and honestly enjoyed it but that laughter was over a stupid person that does stupid things no more no less. I was kind of disappointed because there is almost nothing creative or surprising about the movie. The best thing I enjoyed was the animated starting of the movie, it was very nicely done and so funny.
I guess that Steve Martin tried to do his best to come up with his original staff in order not to be compared with Peter Seller and I think that he accomplished that. But that was not enough to make this movie great in my opinion.
Wo de fu qin mu qin (1999)
Simple and wonderful love story
The Road Home is a movie about a very standard and simple love on the first site story. The beauty is in the great acting and the spirit that comes out of the actors.
I liked a lot to watch how people in such villages live and how they dress and the movie gave attention to many daily events of those people.
Again, the acting is gorgeous, but the values that the movie is showing is great also and the strong bounds in the family is there in the movie and you can see how much the love and respect of a sun would make him do to meet his mothers wishes and how grateful student can be to a teacher gave his life to them.
Another point that I liked in the movie is how the director use color. In the current events, you will see black and white scenes and when flashbacks start the colors will come a life. The old days are better and there was the real life for the characters of this movie not the current days, except for the day the sun took his father's place in the school and start teaching the students of the village.
Great movie that I would love to watch again and again.
Braveheart (1995)
Great as a Movie, not a reference to Historical events
Since the first time I've seen this movie in 1996 and I consider it one of the best movies although the copy that I watched was a VHS censored copy. The first time I watched the full copy was when I bought the DVD special edition of it last year.
The story is so powerful and although it was a typical story about the battle between good and evil but the fighting scenes were the biggest of that time and they were simply amazing. Of course if you try to watch this movie after watching a movie like Matrix. well, you will feel that Braveheart is a kid movie and the tricks in the fighting scenes are so obvious and done poorly. My advice to anyone watching this movie is to enjoy the story line instead of concentrating on the special effects.
Another important point about the movie is that it can't reflect an accurate or even near view of what actually happened to Wallace. Reading a little in history or watching some of the programs about this man's life will make you ask the question 'was this man a hero after all?'. Anyway, the history is as good and as bad as who writes it want it to be. so enjoy the movie and just don't take its events as historical facts.
