The Rookie (2002)
Good baseball, family movie
The Rookie is one of the better baseball movies of recent years, and even more exciting, suitable for all audiences--with the exception of people who hate baseball. It stays relatively true to the autobiography it is based on. With a G rating, it has no gratuitous foul language and nothing was added to the true story to make it warrant a more adult rating. Yet it is entertaining and touching, without being cloying. It touches more on the father-son relationships, and omits most of the husband-wife interactions from the book, so females (and males) who don't understand baseball and it's place in society may not appreciate the film.
Summer Catch (2001)
Not for REAL baseball fans
Definitely geared to the under 25 set. I was willing to give it a 'not awful' rating, until the end. I think any knowledgeable baseball fan would be disgusted by the ending. Acting adequate, humor weak. Freddy Prinze Jr. just doesn't look like a pitcher--a middle infielder, maybe.
