Lakeview Terrace (2008)
racist trash
Awful, just awful!! It's sad to walk into a movie high on drugs and happy as a hippie in a helicopter and still fall asleep. Well my friends this situation just so happened to me. The whole movie revolves around racist Samuel l. Jackson pretending that the whole world is based on race. It's complete bull crap, the complete story of this movie makes no f-ing sense and why should it?? OK, so Samuel l. Jackson has something against white people in the movie, so just cause he's a cop he decides that he's billy bad ass and does just some random stuff to his bi-racial neighbors. The only reason this film doesn't get a -3 is cause Jackson was amazing. He's just a great actor straight up. And even tho the movie was one of the stupidest things i sat through it was enough to see the foot freaking master at work.
Righteous Kill (2008)
a little disappointing, yet an enjoyable movie
To put it out plain and simple this was a fun film. Actors, director, and dialogue were all at the top of their game during the movie. But unfortunately the storyline was lacking; and a storyline can make or break actors or directors any day of the week. I walked into the movie expecting for Deniro and Pacino to dish out the old moves like in Heat...and dare I say The Godfather II. Was I being to presumptuous? I don't know. But what I do know is that I knew who the bad guy was from the start, and once i did i lost interest in the rest of the movie. It's definitely a great movie to see for any pacino or deniro fan, but if you're looking for the Departed or Dog Day Afternoon you'll be disappointed.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
could there be a better movie?
I didn't think a movie like this could even be possible. It is an indescribable feeling like when you see a new born child, or when you get the first smell of the see air, or when you see someone you've missed for a long time. Emotions mix and mangle throughout the movie giving it a certain quality only few movies have achieved in all the years of cinema. Movies like The Godfather and Starwars have not even began to touch on the basic human emotions you experience while watching this movie. The way the character goes through the changes of the people around him, and in himself are truly what make this movie captivating. Daniel Day-Lewis plays a tormented soul like no other giving the character something that even Marlon Brando would have a difficult time achieving. I've never felt so strongly about a movie like what I felt after watching this. How the character went through the nice, giving, charismatic person into the drunk, tortured person that he eventually becomes is marvelous...and yet heart breaking at the same time. I didn't actually know exactly what I felt after seeing the movie...I couldn't quite place the emotion until now, it is content. I don't feel like I have to keep searching for a certain painting, or a stanza of poetry that touches my inner being because I have found this movie, this...work of art, this...masterpiece. It kept me on the edge of my seat both physically and emotionally until the very end. So I do hope you get out and see something that will be held in regard as one of the greatest pictures in human history.
Disturbia (2007)
one the best thrillers
Alright, Hollywood has been upsetting me with these cheap movies with the same story lines and horrible actors for the past ten years. Every now and then there has been a good thriller/horror (ex. Seven, Silence of Lambs, Red Dragon), but for the most part every movie is the same as the last, and quite frankly i'm tired of it. It's like beating your head against the wall, and then doing it again and again. Truly it is all pointless, but as I was watching Disturbia I began to realize their may still be hope in Hollywood. As I watched the previews for the first time I realized that I recognized most of the actors, and liked them, the storyline looked decent, and I was hoping that this movie may just give me a good scare, and oh...how it did. When the movie started off in the beginning I liked the nice twist on Shia's character and I new this would later lead to something although I did not know what. He becomes messed up, hits his teacher blah, blah, blah, and then all of the sudden after the spying had begun the movie started getting intense. I enjoyed the ending and the scaring was just right for me. The actors were good, the storyline was excellent, and the movie surpassed my expectations. Please watch this movie if you just want to have a good amount of scare.
The Wicker Man (2006)
the worst movie in cinematic history!
A trooper is on the side of the road making sure every1 is obeying the speed limit (doing his job); he then pulls over a woman who appears she is a mother (there is a child in the back seat); he then is telling her what is wrong and BAM...they get killed. Okay, this is the start of what i personally thought would have been a good movie. When I was watching this movie in the theatre I was with some friends. This was our first night out after the summer so we wanted to go and see a good movie. We all decided to see a suspense/thriller that looked good to everyone in the group...this was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Not only did I waste $7.oo on a movie ticket, but I had to sit through torture for the brain. This movie started off with mystery and suspense and I seriously thought "this cant be bad"...I was so wrong. The whole problem with this movie is that it makes no sense; even if you can get passed the bad acting, the "not so scary" storyline, and the over all horrible mess this movie was, you will still be puzzled. It's not because you're not smart enough to understand it, it's because no human with a brain could comprehend what this stupid movie is about. Right now you may be thinking "Oh man! I have to watch this movie just to see if it's as bad as this person says it is". GET THAT THOUGHT OUT OF YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW!!! I'm trying to save you the trouble of watching this movie by telling you that it is so bad that there is no point in even considering seeing it. Please people don't make the same mistake i did thinking that this movie has potential...it doesn't. I give this movie 1 out of 10 (if I could give a zero I would), and I do not recommend anyone to ever see this movie, you'll be saving yourself many sleepless nights trying to think w.t.f. that freaking movie is about.
Open Range (2003)
a simple storyline made extraordinary by the director and actor
I have to say that I was hesitant before seeing this movie, most westerns now days aren't nearly as enjoyable or well made as ones were 30, 40, 50 years ago. I waited to see this movie on DVD and I'm still regretting it. This movie has a very simple story-line but Costner with his stupendous acting and directing skills turned this into a future classic. The movie has some familiar faces like Robert Duvall, Annette Bening, and the late Michael Jeter. Although this movie had the average storyline of most okay westerns, the director and, most of all the actors turned this movie into one of the most exciting, wonderfully entertaining westerns in the past decade. This movie has action, suspense, and a little touch of drama and mystery that I think was added nicely to Costner's character. All the actors didn't fail their part at all and hopefully will continue to make movies on this level of greatness. I recommend this movie for people who just need to see some of the old school western with some of the new school effects.
Smokin' Aces (2006)
so far, the best movie of the year
This movie so far has been my personal favorite movie of the year. The movie itself has a good story, but the acting was perfect. Ryan Reynolds, who is usually a great comedic actor, does his best work in this movie without question. All the actors did a wonderful job in this movie, and you may see some familiar faces including Ray Liota, Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, and some actors that you may have never seen before, but they made the movie all the same. All together this tremendous list of wonderful actors who put their best work into this movie makes it an awesome movie with a great storyline and awesome twist. I recommend this movie for anyone who wants to see a powerful drama, and an awesome action flick. It deserves the most praise possible from everyone. Please, I recommend you see this movie at all costs, if you do you will know what I am talking about when I say this is the best movie of 2007.
A Man Apart (2003)
One of diesel's best
Although this movie may not be the greatest this is some of Vin Diesel's best work.
I have watched and studied this movie many times and focusing just on Vin Diesel I don't find anything wrong with it.
I am very young but I still can recognize the great acting in this movie.
I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a good action, but at the same time see a pretty good drama.
I hope that Vin Diesel puts as much work into his future films as he did in this one.
p.s. DO NOT SEE TRIPLE X!!!!!! I WAS LOSING ALL FAITH IN VIN DIESEL BY THE SECOND WHILE WATCHING THAT MOVIE.
American History X (1998)
Can't get a better film
Oh my god...there is not a better film out there. This movie has everything a great movie should have. I hadn't seen Ed Norton in many other movies, I didn't consider him an Oscar deserving actor until I saw this movie. Edward Norton gave one of the most brilliant performances in cinemtaic history; period. All of the other actors were good, but Ed Norton steals the show, he deserved an Oscar for the character he brought to life in this movie. There is so many things I could say about this movie, but I don't want to bore people.
Oh and after this movie I saw Primal Fear, another Oscar deserving performance.
