Aftermath (2021)
Fairly good thriller
It has a concept similar to an Australian thriller but Aftermath has enough atmospheric tension to keep you guessing.
F9 (2021)
Same as always
We've gotten to a point where, for the past 6 years, the Fast series have got one thing on their mind, and that's dumb action. And with that came a huge fanbase and that's all that matters to them right now.
Like the Marvel films, people love to see crazy stunts combined with CGi and a straightforward plot. Nothing fancy, just guys saving the world.
F9 definitely has what the fans are looking for but a change in director can maybe just give it a bit more style. Lin did a good job with 5, which is arguably the best one, but just stuck to the same formula ever since.
Simply put, there is no WOW factor in this one and since it's fan base is so big and raking in the money, it's probably going to stick to the same formula for the last 2 films.
Mercury Rising (1998)
What Bruce does best
The 90's actually started the 'Child-protecting' action films since Terminator 2 but just like Arnie, Bruce does a good job at it too. Only he has a harder one with this kid. Willis keeps the action going, sort of like you would see him in Die Hard-style, but it's a pity with the final act though. Could've worked it out better there I feel.
Other than that, it has a good touch of heart between it's leading stars and there's never a dull moment.
It Follows (2014)
No need to follow
Horror movies doesn't need gore to make it a horror so this movie has the right idea to just use atmosphere and music. Unfortunately it also needs a better story.
Till Death (2021)
Decent with added plotholes
I always enjoy films like these as it reminds me of classics such as Fargo and A Simple Plan. When I saw Megan Fox in the title role I thought, she can't act and this role didn't prove any different, but that can easily be ignored.
The main reason for this film is it's simple setup and the director does a good job of keeping things flowing
and the story doesn't drag. Only problem is it will frustrate you at times with some plotholes here and there. Otherwise it's a fairly good thriller to watch.
The Forever Purge (2021)
Stop this nonsense
I'm at a point where if I watch a series (some successful, some not) I tend to lose interest as it becomes repetitive the longer it goes on. The Purge series started off interesting and the second one was argubly my favorite one, but as far as film series go in Hollywood; if the money is good, the series will continue.
Add another two after that and you have The Forever Purge, which has a new twist in the series. I'm all for a good twist but this film lacked that and more. Maybe I was watching too much Walking Dead because it did feel like that at times.
Either way, it will still appeal to Purge fans who can expect the odd jump scares and gore. There's surprisingly a good message as well but I just feel like this series is getting a bit tired.
