Sand Dollar Cove (2021)
A Hallmark type
The movie plot itself was pretty much in line with the standard plot: woman lands in backwater town, meets a guy she likes, her job interferes with the relationship, a solution is found.
I enjoyed it because it was wonderful to see familiar actors' faces again. Ally Michalka (iZombie) and Clare Bowen (Nashville) were some of my favourites from their previous shows and it is great seeing them in the Hallmark scene where I can still enjoy their acting. I really have to hand it to Clare who can cover accents very well to cover her own Australian accent. She is also a great singer but that isn't employed here.
Chad is harder to warm up to, I didn't feel a lot of chemistry between him and Ally but I view these movies as light entertainment and don't get too overwrought over perfection.
Another comment mentioned the pier but I think the oddest thing that we never see in the movie is the oyster factory. They keep looking over the waterfront but the factory is never there, just town buildings.
Keep bringing back Ally and Clare for other movies. They are good at acting and play characters well.
Love Strikes Twice (2021)
This one is fun!
I usually turn on the W Channel on the weekend while I knit or sew. Some stories are easy to follow by just listening but this one was a while new Hallmark! Whoever the writers were for this one need to be kept on payroll!
The dialogue was great, the references to the past (gaming) hilarious for someone who was there when Pac Man first came out and got to use the brand new Commdore 64 to write my thesis!
Great humour and touching scenes just complete it. Time travel can be a difficult premise but just relax and enjoy the actors playing their parts with energy and a sense of fun.
Love Unleashed (2019)
It's fine
For a Sunday afternoon, it's just fine, given kids are likely to be around. Kind of a Disney, straight to video level. As for the lead actress being "noticeably" pregnant, no. She looks about 4 months. Descriptions here make it sound like she is heavily pregnant and she is actually barely showing. It is mostly covered up with big t-shirts and gathered blouses. Really, why are actresses expected to be stick thin anyway? Congratulations to her for having a girl and adopting two boys after an earlier miscarriage! Celebrate, don't criticize.
