The Office (2005)
The Office saved my life.
PAM: "There's a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn't that kind of the point?"
Life's been rough the last few months. No matter what I seem to do things just seem to go the opposite way for me and all of this has just got me feeling down and quite miserable.
Thankfully one of the things that's kept me going and looking forward to the next day has been this small sitcom about a group of people working in a run of the mill paper company.
I was initially skeptical about watching the American version because I felt that there was no way that it could possibly match the humor of Ricky Gervais' groundbreaking series. But The Office made me laugh and cry more than any other series ever has, and believe me it takes a lot to make me teary eyed, but damn it, they did it!
What really makes The Office shine and keep audiences coming back for more after all these years are the characters. It's no joke when I say this show has one of the greatest ensembles ever put on screen and if you need further evidence go and watch the bloopers on Youtube, they'll prove my point. They had an absolute blast making this, and it comes across so well in the acting and the writing. I need an Office reunion soon please.
I grew to love Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute. I loved Jim and Pam's relationship. I couldn't get enough of Creed Bratton. I felt sorry for Kevin. The Office made me care more about the 15 people I watched across 180 episodes than I do about most people I see everyday.
The Office is the perfect representation of the challenges of everyday life ordinary people face mixed in with absolutely nutty hilarious scenes that will have you on the floor in tears. But most importantly it is the ultimate feel good series for when you feel life life's to much. It saved my life.
Thank you so much to all you wonderful people who worked on this beautiful show. You've made a huge impact on millions of people by having the ability to brighten up their day. You are awesome.
The Last of Us (2023)
Thrives in spite of the odds...
Despite having a big dislike for Part II's ending, having a mixed reaction towards the casting of its two lead actors, and the fact that this is a videogame adptation, HBO's The Last Of Us has broken away from the long tradition of mediocre videogame adaptations by being both a faithful and innovating retelling of an iconic tale.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey shed new light on Joel and Ellie's relationship bringing both more emotion and depth to these characters. Ramsay especially feels like she did her homework. The same way that we now see Robert Downey Jr. As the definitive version of Iron Man, Ramsey is videogame Ellie brought to life. She's that good and her role deserves all the recognition.
It took me 4 episodes to get a feel of what Pedro Pascal was bringing to his own take on Joel. Instead of the strong silent hero type stereotypically portrayed in most videogames, Pascal chose to focus on Joel's humanity and deep anxiety which illustrated a whole new side to the character that couldn't have possibly been portrayed as well in a the game. That's not to say that Joel is not as able or as violent in this version, he's simply portayed in a much more realistic fashion.
The supporting cast is also terrific and I appreciate that they didn't just cast actors based solely on their acting abilities but also took the chance to cast minorities. Standout performances incluse Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Montreal Woodard, Storm Reid, Nico Parker and Scott Shepherd. These actors were able to bring the characters in the game to life and, in my opinion, delivered masterful performances, which is quite a feat.
The scale and the sets of the project are insane. It astounds me that HBO was able to allow these guys to do whatever they wanted, and it paid off. The locations, cinematography, costume design and lighting are gorgeous masterpieces. Most Hollywood productions would kill to be able to work on this kind of project.
All in all, The Last Of Us is a win win. If you're new to this story you get to experience it for the very first time. Lucky you. If you are a fan of the games you will be eagerly anticipating how the show will adapt your favourite moments. It's must watch tv.
The Walking Dead: Rest in Peace (2022)
The dead walk no longer...
12 years and 11 seasons later, The Walking Dead has finally been put to rest. Many will argue that the show should have ended many years ago when it was still in its prime, but I think it ended just where it needed to. So, how was the ending? In my opinion it was largely satisfying, yet I feel as though it could have been a lot longer. But it was definitely better than the Game of Thrones finale, and much less divisive. A series with so much death, torture, horror, trauma, blood and violence could only have one ending: A happy one. And it was earned and deserved. After seeing these characters go through so much this is exactly what we as fans wanted and expected. I find the end points of the characters journey largely satisfying and logical. The writers developed the natural end points for the characters.
Among the highlights of the episode were Maggie and Negan's emotional exchange in which she explains that while she will never forget what he did. She may have come to respect him and learned to move on, but she still remembers what he did. God that scene was amazing.
The scene with all of the group carrying Judith through the hospital was intense, gorgeously realised and stressful. I saw the direct parallel between Rick waking up in the hospital and the group carrying his daughter through the hospital corridor, in honor of everything he did for them.
Obviously the big talking point of this episode will be the last 5 minutes. Rick is back. And he's pissed as ever. I'm so happy that they decided to include this scene in the episode, and I cannot wait for the Rick and Michonne spinoff next year and them reuniting with their kids. God, I can already imagine what that scene will be like. Seeing Rick again after so long made me soooo happy and emotional. Rick is The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead is done. It's over. Its left its bite on TV. Although many people complained about the show through the years this finale honored and gave long time fans exactly what they wanted. Thank you The Walking Dead. We will miss you. Now rest.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
One show to rul... ehhh???
Now that the whole of season 1 is over we can finally talk about it with the benefit of hindsight, and gosh was this series wildly uneven. I started off completely hating the first 2 episodes due to the focus on those stories being largely boring, dull and uninteresting, but the following 4 episodes which center on the island of Numenor, brought me back in. Any storyline that focused on Halbrand, the Harfoots and the stranger (c'mon. We all know he's Gandalf) and Elendil and his family all felt like classic Tolkien and honored his accomplished legacy. The remaining stories were awful. Galadriel is monotone and they even managed to make a race of immortals quite frankly dull. These particular storylines require a tremendous amount of work and improvement if this series is to reach 5 seasons as we are supposedly led to believe.
Even after watching the finale, i got that sense that this may have been intended to be just one season, maybe two. I hope that the remaining seasons don't just elongate the plot in other to squeeze as much juice out of it's supposedly new found popularity. Only time will tell...
Overall, Rings of Power is not the disappointment that was feared, but rather a mixture between modern day woke Tolien-esque writers and shimmers of writing that echo JRR's style, tone and themes.
68/100.
House of the Dragon: Second of His Name (2022)
The Best Ever From The Best Show Yet ...
When was the last time the first 3 eps of a tv show hooked you in as fast as House Of The Dragon has?
Pros
- Paddy Considine kills it!
- Lannisters
- Rhaenyra and Cole's subplot is very well executed and I can see what the writers are planning to do.
- Politicking and scheming is back on the menu boys!
- Last 15 mins are classic GOT.
- Daemon Targaryen is the most complex character in the franchise.
- It mixes the early seasons of GOT with a blockbuster budget.
All in all, House of the Dragon has cemented itself as one of the must watch shows of 2022, and we still have 7 eps left.
Rings of Power take notes...
House of the Dragon (2022)
A promising start to a new chapter in The Song of Ice and Fire...
PROS
- Excellent cast, particularly Milly Alcock.
- Political intrigue, violence and sex.
- Faithful to Martin's work.
- S1 vibes with the budget of S8
CONS
- Pacing is a little fast.
- Not as funny as GOT.
Tales of the Walking Dead: Dee (2022)
One of the best episodes in the franchise...
Since AMC is so invested in the idea of TWD spinoff nowadays, I demand a spinoff be made centering on Alpha and Lydia after this masterpiece of an episode. More of this please Tales.
Pros
1- Samantha Morton is at the top of her game, cementing Alpha as an iconic character.
2- Supporting cast are great too.
3- Unique plot and setting.
Cons
- I want more.
Tales of the Walking Dead: Evie/Joe (2022)
Terry and Olivia save Tales
The first episode of The Walking Dead is a terribly painful average episode that is only saved by the chemistry between Terry Crews and Olivia Munn.
As the first episode that is meant to experiment or tell stories about this universe in an interesting and unique way, this was a tale that didn't need to be told.
That said I would like to see Joe and Evie again. They were fun characters.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
Dylan McDermott is scary
PROS
- Great acting by McDermott
- Well paced story with plenty of twist
- Creepy music
CONS
- Some of the kids ain't the greatest actors
Great serial killer flick.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Alita brings a much needed freshness and originality to the pictures
PROS
- Great lead character, Alita is iconic
- Supporting cast more than lift their weight, particularly Waltz and Keean Johnson
- Groundbreaking motion capture and visual effects
- Emotional story and fantastically realised world
Cons
- Ed Skrein
Alita is jam-packed with great characters, a compelling story and a world you want to visit and see more of in future installments. We need sequels Disney. Please.
80/100.
The Walking Dead: Acts of God (2022)
Perfect end to 11B. Great setup for 11C.
The confilct has begun, and i'm all here for it. Can't wait for the last 8 eps. Never thought i'd say that.
Pros
- Maggie and Negan character development
- Lance unhinged
- Daryl, Aaron, Gabe vs Commonwealth = EPIC
- Maggie v Leah
- Rebellion
- THAT ENDING!!!
Cons
- A little short.
The Walking Dead: Trust (2022)
Lance is one of the best characters on the show.
Largely a set up for the second mid-season finale. Josh Hamilton was the highlight. Lance's scenes with Maggie are riddled with tension and suspense. It's in this episode where we finally catch up on the Daryl and Maggie scene from 11x9, nut it feels like a slight misdirect. Classic TWD.
Also F-Bomb. The other storylines with Ezekiel, Mercer and Stephanie, while good just weren't as captivating as the main one. That said, it seemed to set up the finale pretty well. Let's hope it delivers the goods.
The Walking Dead: The Rotten Core (2022)
The scene we wre waiting for...
Cons
- Toby's gone too soon.
- Sebastian is a dick. Daryl and Rosita wouldn't stand for his shit.
Pros
- Phenomenal Negan/Hershel scene
- Toby's gruesome death
- Safe scene
- Catching up with Negan
- Mercer taking out Sebastian's guys.
The Walking Dead is gearing up for a great mid-season finale. Let's hope the next 2 eps deliver.
The Walking Dead: Warlords (2022)
Warlords sets up the endgame perfectly
Best episode of season 11 so far. This episode could stand perfectly beside 10x19. The has the same tone, themes and atmosphere as its predecessor. Plus my boy Negan is back!
The Batman (2022)
The best standalone Batman film
PROS
-PATTINSON AS A MORE DEPRESSED AND VIOLENT BATMAN IS GREAT IN THE ROLE.
-PAUL DANO IS THE SCARIEST BATMAN VILLAIN SINCE HEATH LEDGER'S JOKER.
-ENGAGING STORY THAT OPENS UP THE WORLD, WHICH EXPLORES AND EXPANDS ON MANY BATMAN CHARACTERS.
- WRIGHT, KRAVITZ, TURTURRO, SERKIS AND FARRELL GIVE GREAT PERFORMANCES.
-GORDON AND BATMAN WORKING TOGETHER.
-THE FINAL ACT IS PERFECT.
-PARALLELS TO TODAY'S WORLD.
-INFLUENCED BY ZODIAC, SE7EN, CHINATOWN, GODFATHER... -MATT REEVES COMBINES A STORY INFUENCED BY SEVERAL BATMAN COMIC BOOKS AND EVEN THE TELLTALE GAME.
-MANY EASTER EGGS.
CONS
-YOU FEEL THE RUNTIME. SOME STORY ELEMENTS COULD BE CUT. SELINA IS FALCONE'S DAUGHTER STICKS OUT.
-BATMAN/CATWOMAN ROMANCE FEELS SLIGHTLY FORCED.
-JOKER SCENE.
94/100.
