Flashforward (2009)
Flashforward 3 years...
Excellent pilot episode... But then so was 'LOST'.
Then that quickly degenerated into farcical scenarios, invented by 'writers' spinning out 'EVERY' idea they have come up with, over their latte's, subs, & writers sessions.
Leaving the most devoted viewers shouting for the writers' collective blood.
Now call me a cynic if you wish; But I will bet 'anything' this ends up the same. Hiding under the pretence of a quality mystery television event.
I really, really, honestly hope I am wrong. I truly do. But compare it to the quality of say CSI, Law & Order, CSI Miami etc, you can see this (& LOST) writing for what it really is...
Sherlock Holmes and the Baskerville Curse (1983)
The Baskerville Curse
Excellent version of the Classic Story. Contains nearly all the elements of the book, so (as previous reviewer stated) is a perfect introduction for kids.
Superb voice casting, with Peter O'Toole lending great authority here. With enough drama/action to satisfy adults too.
Spoiler Alert!!!
Sherlock Holmes helps a young Henry Baskerville, who has just arrived from Canada, to become the new Lord of Baskerville Hall. It's all here; The escaped convict, Barrymore, and Sir Hugo getting his throat ripped out by The Hound.
Also available on DVD too; are other Sherlock Holmes Adventures.
'The Sign of Four' , 'Valley of Fear' and 'A Study in Scarlet' (Again, voiced by O'Toole). Check out Amazon for a bargain too.
Dracula (2006)
Dracula...this isn't!!
What on earth was the BBC thinking? This is bad bad bad. Pretentious camera work, poor location shooting (No Transyilvania!) & without exception everyone overacts. Lording it up to the point of parody.
SPOILER ALERT:- Lord Holmwood suffers from syphilis and with the help of a black magic group, instigates Count Dracula's journey to England. To cure the ailing lord with some blood magic, so he can bed his bride,Lucy Westenra. What complete boXXXXks! Of all the adaptations out there, this is easily the worst! I send my heartfelt sympathy to the Bram Stoker estate. Harcourt, you should be ashamed... PART OF HARCOURT'S PRESS RELEASE:- "This is my personal take on the classic Bram Stoker novel. And I hope its scenes of sex, horror and disease will blow the cobwebs off traditional period drama, and provide a classic literary chiller perfect for a dark winter night."
CLASSIC LITERARY CHILLER. Dillusions of Grandeur... A pretentious attempt at re-writing a LEGEND that is BRAM STOKER'S Dracula...No one else comes close, so please stop trying!
