Shôgun (2024)
Dubbed version or you'll lose viewers
I'm not a read the show kind of person. I want to enjoy the settings and the action on screen. Not try to read everything and glance up once in a while to see the scenery. I'm 20 minutes in and I can barely tell you what settings they been to. I'm to busy trying to read subtitles. I get the authentic vibe you're looking for and wanting the best Japanese actors. Now have them dub their own lines if they can speak even broken English. And dub actors for the rest of the cast. There has to be enough Japanese people to keep the acting in country. If that's what you're after. I believe that I'm in the majority on this stance.
I've waited very eagerly for this to be released and I can't fully enjoy the show because I'm forced to read it.
Stalingrad (1993)
This is barely about Stalingrad
What a boring movie that should not have the classification of being a "war movie". It is a Drama with a couple battles. I watched hoping to see the battle of Stalingrad. The whole movie is about a group of deserters. There are only 2 battle scenes and both are before Stalingrad is mentioned. I was hoping for house to house combat and/or the civilians taking up arms and helping with the protection of the city. No, just some crying women and children that point.
I know I'm VERY late to seeing this for the 1st and only time. At least I gave it a go I guess.
The Northman (2022)
Over-rated
I was told this was a "man's" movie. God it was so f*in slow!
All I could do was watch the time drag on. The few action scenes were blah or off-screen. The fights were poorly choreographed and predictable. The raids were non-existent.
A very boring movie for men and nothing at all for my wife to enjoy.
Billy the Kid (2022)
Where's all the horse theft?
5 Episodes in and we've not seen a single crime committed. Prior to robbing the Chinese store Billy had been arrested. It was his second arrest. Then he started cattle rustling and horse thieving. He talks about his exploits in Mexico. Yet we don't see any of it. Why not? It's as if the show is trying to say that Billy was forced into a life of crime. They need to get into the criminal stuff already.
Billy was supposed to be young and slender. He looks like he's 25 by the time his mom dies. He died when he was 22. Poor choice for the star of the show. So far he's doing a great job; he just doesn't look young enough.
If these things were done better I would have given the show a 10. It's a well done western.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Why a movie?
This was not enough time to develop one of the greatest TV characters. Why not make this a TV series? Yes we know how it ends, but make it 2-4 seasons only. Have Tony earning his way up. Develop his mother, sister, etc. This movie just proved that they plan on making a sequel.
F9 (2021)
God Awful Movie
This is the worst thing I have ever seen. So unbelievable. Very little in the entire 2+ hours was even close to reality. At least try to make a reasonable movie.
Way Down (2021)
Gloves? Masks? DNA in general? Rated R?
Have they never heard of any of these things? You knew what would happen before it happened.
Lastly, WTF was in this that rated in R? More in a Marvel movie and they are PG-13.
Fargo: East/West (2020)
B&W --
Did they run over budget or something? Or forget that it's not actually the 1950's?
Don't do this! No one wants to be reminded that we used to have to watch TV in B&W.
Containment (2016)
Everything Fear The Walking Dead Should Have Been
I've started watching Containment. It is everything that Fear the Walking Dead should have been.
Mild Spoilers below, followed by conjecture (since the show is only 3 episodes old).
The disease starts slowly. A city block or two is quarantined. You see the city's reaction to being locked in because of a disease. Some have loved ones outside the containment zone, others have loved ones inside. They want to comfort the other, and make sure they don't suffer alone. The police try to contain the disease. Eventually they have to extend the containment and make crossing the line even harder. People feel the claustrophobia. Even though they have a 1 mile square block of real estate to live in. And they only have to survive 48 hours; no make that an additional 48 hours, we've found a new case. And another.
The perimeter needs to expand. It is getting out of control. One season later and we have 5 miles squared of infected people. We've contained them. Oh Crap! Another made it through the line. That's a ten mile radius. Season 2 we now have the entire city of LA locked down. Season 3 it has taken its toll and now the western sea board is closed completely. We have zombies, but not world ending yet. That's what should be happening in Fear the Walking Dead. Not world annihilation after 1 season. Now it's just The Walking Dead on water.
I guess America is fine with 10 NCIS shows and 4 Chicago shows. Why not 2 The Walking Dead
The Night Shift (2014)
8 Episodes
I hated ER, but this show is excellent (so far). I was just really getting into it and now I see it is over for the season. Seriously 8 Episodes for an entire season, really? Even The Walking Dead does 12 episodes per season. Every show on American TV is 10+ episodes. Why cut it so short? I know a lot of work goes in to each episode, but the same can be said for every show. So, that isn't an excuse. Did you run out of money? Did it not look appealing enough to order 12? I just don't get it. Why do I have to write out every word and make my post longer just to be able to meet the minimum lines of text for a review? I'm sorry I am not an author. As a man, I prefer to get directly to the point and not waste a lot of words when I don't have to. Also, it told me this wasn't proper English. I know how to type properly. I wasn't born in the 2000's.
Blue Valentine (2010)
Worst movie EVER!!!
This was the SLOWEST most boring movie I have EVER had the displeasure of wasting my money on. No one can give me back those minutes and I will be worse for wear. The plot was dumb and the characters were even worse. When you read the other reviews and pay attention to the "Hollywood Hype", you would expect to see a movie of value. I should have known better though. When have they ever promoted a "man's movie"?
With the way Hollywood works this will win Best Picture and prove; yet again, that the Oscar committee doesn't know what fans really like. This picture should be used to line bird houses.
NC-17 originally? What happened? At least some nudity and great sex scenes would have made it bearable. In closing, everyone should have to suffer thru this steaming pile, so I wasn't the only one punished.
