The Limey (1999)
Can't complain about the acting, but the film was, well, boring
I didn't really watch this as closely as I should have, since my daughter kept waking up and distracting me. Perhaps i would have liked it more if I had concentrated more closely. Then again, I don't really like to have to force myself to concentrate on a movie, I like them to pick me up and take me with them. This one didn't. I saw it on the strength of Traffic being such a brilliant film. This one was definitely not in the same class. Tedious and drawn out with fairly tenuous links between characters. It didn't ring true for me.
Pay It Forward (2000)
Heart Tugger with believable characters
I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Excellent performances from all the leads. Kevin Spacey was typically brilliant. Helen Hunt played a great role and Haley Joel Osmond was entirely engaging as the lead role.
There was some beautifully framed shots in the film, and it didn't get overly mushy. The ending (in the house and outside) was a little over the top, and could have been better served with a more subtle offering.
Overall, it was a pretty enjoyable film that managed to touch on the meaning of hope and the value of perseverance.
Human Traffic (1999)
Insufferably irksome, condescending crap
Irritating characters beautifully complement inept and patronising directing. The hip message is shoved down your gagging throat. There's no redeeming qualities to grace this film. Perhaps a quick chuckle at Mum catching son masturbating in front of the mirror, but if you want laughs like that, just watch Porkys. For an added bonus, Porkys will probably be more challenging, and you will be free to make up your own mind about the characters and their values.
