Outback Car Hunters (2021)
Nice show, but
Nice light entertainment, but not always accurate.
Episode Ford Capri & Holden Commodore (Season1 Episode 10) and they have incorrectly claimed that the first Holden was built in 1951. BEEP WRONG
First Holden was in 1948, and was launched under Labor Prime Minister Ben Chifley on 29th November 1948. It was officially designated "48-215", the car was marketed simply as the "Holden". The unofficial usage of the name "FX" originated within Holden, referring to the updated suspension on the 48-215 of 1953.[Holden was named after Sir Edward Holden, the company's first chairman and grandson of J. A. Holden.
Wolf Creek (2016)
Wasted Opportunity
This contains Spoilers: Watched half of this series and had hoped that it would entertain and be as dramatic and a psychological thriller as the WC1 & WC2 films. The writers have Mick Taylor using his trademark blue Ford F100 which was destroyed in WC1 then this series must be a prequel. The series starts and teases with great promise. In the WC! & WC2 it showed how Mick Taylor offered tainted top end water to drug his victims, but this time he is out of his normal environment and the targets are drinking their own liquid refreshments. The subsequent initial attack comes as a surprise, especially when Robert Taylor is quickly written out. And that is the only surprise, the rest of the series is cliché where the writers must have just graduated from writing school. Unfortunately then this series quickly dwindles into standard run of the mill television with many unnecessary scenes used to pad out the time and fails miserably to deliver any psychological thrills. Many areas of scenes that were poorly written include: a) The tourists jumping into a Billabong without any thought of saltwater crocodiles gives an indication that the writers did not put much effort into this. That didn't make any sense, it would be like Australians being noisy, stupid & careless (as an example with food) in American woods populated with grizzly bears. b) The writers make the police look like the keystone cops, as an example where Eve can just walk into a manned police station, go into a detective's office and ruffle through files and then steal them. And what were the writers thinking when they create the one sided romantic interest of the police detective with Eve. Why was Eve not arrested for theft of police material? c) Strangely Eve whilst on foot was able to chase down a car, then "somehow" track down bank robbers and then being able to "sneak" into their house and "somehow" discover the bank loot that was still strangely left in the bag is pathetically contrived. But then when a bank robber tracks her down to get back the money then forgets the stolen money instead proposes to Eve just highlights how ridiculous the series becomes. Moreso when the bank robber then allows Eve to shoot/murder him! d) The writers have made a very poor attempt to divert Mick Taylor's character into a second rate Freddy Krueger - very embarrassing too. e) The writers also make a strange attempt to make Eve look like Mad Max 2 character when they bring in a dingo as her side kick which quickly becomes a household pet! Even the recasting of Andy McPhee who played Bazza in WC1 is now the character Beard - guess there must be a shortage of actors.
It is meant to be a psychological thriller - but it hardly gets anywhere near that, in fact it kills all psychology and gets closer to being how psychologically ridiculous can we make this. Such a sad waste of a great opportunity to continuing the premise of Wolf Creek. Maybe series 2 will be better but the writers will definitely need to be changed.
Under Suspicion (2000)
Drama at its best
A spellbinding gripping intense film. Fantastic performances by Gene Hackman (Henry Hearst) & Morgan Freeman (Captain Benezet), and even a great performance by Thomas Jane as the most annoying (Detective Owens) immature untactful detective. Circumstantial evidence and innuendos are abound, but really this highlights guilt by a person's own dark demons and the social media's manipulation rather than giving any doubt to a person based on actual evidence. The end is not the typical Hollywood (happy ever after) ending or even one that the feminists will be able to hang their hats on, but rather one of that is understanding and emotional as someone who has succumbed to saying what people want to hear without any details being supplied or asked, resulting in their whole life being dissected and humiliated by a forensic scientist and then left discarded on the roadside.
Crawlspace (2012)
What a load of crap!
The premise of Pine Gap suddenly being out of communication together with a group of special elite tactical soldiers to investigate and rescue the resident scientists -sounds great. With the some-what acceptable production and stages, it achieves the claustrophobic environment. Unfortunately what you actually get is a bunch of redneck amateur hippie yobbos masquerading as the elite forces!!! They appear unprofessional as if they have just stepped out from the pub, they grunt and can't put together any intelligent dialogue. Elite force?? Not sure why they would be classed as that. Pine Gap is a US military facility but where are the US special ops??? No way would the US allow a bunch of hillbillies to infiltrate their top-secret spy base. That aside, the movie is excruciatingly slow, the acting is atrocious and the script poorly written. This movie is a complete waste of any viewer's time and is best to be avoided.
Housos vs. Authority (2012)
Great satire
This is a brilliant satire tongue in cheek comedy and highlights the many cultural diversities in Australia and superficial nature of the social upper class. Most of this will be lost on those upper class people and those not from Australia and in particularly Americans. There's no big name multimillion dollar actors/actresses or explosives, fireworks or even CGI, which Hollywood are much more comfortable with. Instead talent is what makes this film hilarious. Great editing and is fast paced all the way through. The acting is superb and the writing is brilliant and totally unpredictable. Laughter from start to even past the end credits, so make sure you watch the end credits. So grab a pizza and a six-pack and sit back for some hilarious entertainment.
Old Dogs (2009)
Old Cliché Dogs
Cliché after cliché, nothing original at all. The audience may find amusement in counting how many clichés are inserted into the movie, at least 50. No real storyline and what is scarcely offered is hardly explained and treats the audience as though they have single digit IQs. Will appeal to those that find amusement with poor attempts of slapstick, but you will find far better acting and storyline from a Three Stooges episode and at a lot less the wasted viewing time. Travolta does well as does Green with the limited scripts provided for them but Williams is poorly cast and is way out of his depth. And to think in the 21st Century Hollywood writers still think audiences find amusement in men getting hit in the crotch.
Hard Candy (2005)
And the message is?
If you like movies that advocate for psychopath vigilante style torture and murder, and where the psychopath vigilante gets away with it then Hard Candy is for you. Especially when the psychopath vigilante is driven by a hypocritical philosophy of life, acting on no evidence whatsoever but only self-deluded narrow-minded suspicions. Hard Candy is designed for the feminists, and man-haters alike will love this film. After a very intriguing set up the film fails to deliver and is a HUGE disappointment for the general public. As no motive is revealed for the actions of the vigilante, nor is there enough depth shown into the victim and as to his motives for wanting to extract revenge and not justice.
