The Magicians (2015)
Hilarious and addictive
Each season is better than the last. I especially love when they do metafiction in a funny way - that's quality literature. Hilarious, dry, completely absurd, postmodern, clever, creative, a good time. The characters are just the best. Fantastic acting, phenomenal writing. So original, so addictive. I'm a chain watcher (hours a day) of this show, and I'm usually not into tv.
Long Ago and Far Away (1989)
One of the best tv shows for kids, wish I they'd sell the DVD of this
I loved this when I was a kid. James Earl Jones narrates in a deep voice. Different media, topic, creator, and culture/country every week. Some deep philosophical topics (what if we were part of a dream?), fables/tales from different countries. This was really mind-bending and absorbing, and I'd love to own a DVD of this so I could share it with my daughter!
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Killer throwback to the 90s
I'm a 34 year old mom and I was laughing out loud pretty much the whole film. The awesome weird soundtrack completely makes the movie. Jim Carrey's character is perfect; my favorite scene is his hilarious and twisted Evil dance. His Lebanese assistant (who makes amazing lates) is hilarious, too. Sonic's character is really well done. All main characters are relatable and develop as the movie progresses. Hilarious side characters as well. Not your classic plot, in the sense that it didn't have they typical "I learned my lesson and I'm sorry" scene (thank goodness). Also it was great to see a strong black female character. Plus the main couple is married, instead of the typical two white single people that fall in love and kiss in the end. One of the best and most enjoyable movies (of any genre) I've seen in a really long time, definitely not just for kids. I'd say it's up there near the Lego Film and Get Out, for me, just in terms of how much I enjoyed it and in the sense that it felt like a unique experience and like the writers/directors were really thinking out of the box and how I wouldn't get bored even if I watched it a dozen times.
