Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Children of the Comet (2022)
Well, why don't we start this all over again.
So, there is tension on the bridge as all are trying to prevent the comet from colliding with the planet, but Pike decides to throw in a couple of comedic quips - lord help me. WHY? I think the writers are just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. I can imagine the writers saying "Hey, why not get Pike to throw out some humourous quips during this tense scene. Sure, its inappropriate for the scene, but who cares". And, what's the deal with Pike's hair? Maybe they threw that in to appeal to the hair stylist viewers, who knows. Four of the bridge crew beam down to the comet and Uhura starts going on and on about how she's only a cadet and worrying about being able to do her job. Well, why the hell did she sign up for the job? Anyway, they find this big egg-like alien device and try to figure out how to communicate to it. Uhura hums to it and it opens up. Sounds like Close Encounters of the Third Kind to me. We never really find out what the big egg is however. This episode is chock-full of inconsistencies. If the producers want this series to be successful they should look at what made the original Star Trek successful and quit trying to be cute.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Was Expecting Better
I had hoped this series would be closer to the original. I'm glad that they seem to have cut back on some CGI, which made Picard and Discovery unwatchable for me. It was not promised, but I had hoped for the crew to be more like old Jim Kirk's crew, but it seems it was decided to give some of them that extra quirkiness. Why do we need that? Can't we just have normal, everyday Starfleet officers without attitude, shaved heads and ditziness. I just hope they don't go all heavily political and woke in this series with strong messages every episode, just so they don't offend anybody. Can't we just have Pike travelling the galaxy getting into binds with aliens, maybe encounter a few Tribbles along the way and have a little fun. Cut out all the political messaging. We get enough of that in our daily lives. I want fun and entertainment.
Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators: Most Wicked Speed (2022)
Not Very Good
This series is really slipping. I have noticed that this season the episodes are filled with lots of unneeded silliness, that adds nothing to episodes, and poor dialogue. Maybe the writers thought that the silliness would makeup for sub-standard writing. I used to look forward to this show but now I find it just tolerable. What a waste of good talent. I'll give it one more episode.
Sister Boniface Mysteries: Unnatural Causes (2022)
Sure not Father Brown
I was looking forward to this show mainly because I thought it may be as good as Father Brown. Unfortunately there is little chemistry and the characters seem to be in their own silos. Maybe I'm being too harsh but I can't find any character to like. I find them all a bit irritating. Hopefully the series will improve.
The Great Canadian Baking Show (2017)
Total Cringe
The judges this season are fine for me but the two hosts are just not a good fit. Maybe it is just the lines they are given to say or the directing but they are just terrible. Everything is so forced - forced laughter - forced praise, etc. Bring back Dan Levy.
Leverage: Redemption: The Golf Job (2021)
Best episode so far
This episode was clever and funny. Drew Powell is excellent as Hurly and Morgan Lindholm was great as Sarah. Both would make excellent additions to the team.
