Donggam (2000)
Amazing!
*May contain spoiler, but I don't really know...* I absolutely loved Ditto. The only real problem was the choppy translation, in my opinion. Otherwise it was very beautiful and I think you can really connect to the characters emotions.
Ditto isn't the ordinary romance or drama movie. It's about Jeein, who is from 2000, and Yoon Seoun, who is from 1979. They start talking thru a HAM radio and develop an interest in the fact that they might actually be in different time periods. It takes both of them a while to realize what's actually happening and the romance isn't even really focused on the two of them. Considering the story behind Jeein's parents and Seoun I'm starting to think that the radio Jeein had may have actually been the one Seoun was using to talk to him. If you think about it, it could make sense. Really the two main characters don't seem to have that much to do with each other, but I think in some ways they fell in love. It's a very powerful movie, even made me cry, but I really enjoyed it. Although it moves pretty slow, I didn't mind because it gave me a lot of time to think about the story.
After watching this only 15 minutes ago, I feel moved and I know that this is one of the Korean titles I'd like to own. It's not at all about sex, because it really focuses on human relationships and emotions. I thought it was very sad and it kind of proves that when you're in love with someone and it doesn't last...You'll always remember either way.
Hint: Netflix is a good way to get a hold of it for quick watching.
Sum seung si sing (2007)
Very different...
The first few minutes into this movie I was thinking, "Wow...This looks kind of lame." Well, I changed my mind throughout the movie. For some strange reason it caught my interest. -It's A Wonderful Life- is quirky but the story isn't bad at all. It's basically just a look at family life from another person's perspective. Mix in some Godly powers and you have a different way of understanding how other people can help solve problems. This movie really kept me entertained...It was just something unique and new for a comedy drama type of movie. It probably could have been better, but most movies can. So it isn't that big of a deal. If you're looking for an odd and funny Chinese film, check this one out.
Tsoi suet yuk chi ngo oi nei (2005)
Minor flaws, but simply moving
All About Love was pretty obvious like most romantic drama films. Most people can clearly guess what's going to happen all throughout the movie. Though it does have it's unexpected turn of events, of course. I won't go into much detail. But here is what I will say: There are two men, Doctor Ko and Derek(both played by Andy Lau), and two women, Zi Qing and Tsue Yen Sam. These are two couples that both go through something pretty terrible, so you can see the resemblance and guess that there will be something that intertwines the people together in the story. I don't like spoiling so I don't want to give much away at all. It's a really nice love story and has some good lessons. It really makes you think and can bring tears to your eyes. I thought the imaging was very beautiful, but there were some things that I thought could be a lot better done. The character's emotions might have needed to be displayed a lot stronger. But truly, you get the full-effect that was intended either way. 9/10
Luen oi chor gor (2006)
Nice love story.
I thought 'Love @ First Note' was a really cute movie. It mainly deals with a bunch of teenagers and a certain music scene. It had it's fun and surprising and maybe even sad moment. It was kind of heart-full, which I thought was really great. It's a movie that you can probably relate to and I think it contrasted the character emotions pretty clearly. Although there are tons of Chinese love dramas, this one was most definitely not one of the worst. It could have been better, but even so I loved it! Very nice to just sit at home and watch, alone, or maybe even with a loved one. It mainly deals with teenagers and of course, music so if you're not too much of a fan for that kind of movie, do stay away. Overall, I'll give it an 8/10.
