Blood Simple (1984)

One of the greats debuts
14 March 2024
It's amazing how many films lost in time there are, and this one by the Cohen brothers is one of the best of that group. It was impressive to discover later that this was their first film as directors, and Barry Sonnenfeld's first film as director of photography.

Blood Simple is a wonderful unconventional noir comedy, with an irrepressible dynamic from two talented beginner filmmakers who give the conventions of the genre such a complete treatment. The result is a film that already challenges the audience, strengthened by a fantastic soundtrack by Carter Burwell.

The film unfolds with a strange, almost supernatural atmosphere, challenging the audience to suspend their belief and remain involved in the plot.

A NEW PILLAR IN SCI-FI CINEMA
14 March 2024
Dune Part Two was a perfect sequel to Villeneuve's first part. He accomplished all of the book's major plot points while also delivering stunning performances and visuals, a fantastic execution of unexpected humor with a passionate performance from Javier Bardem.

Most films in recent years only dream of having the brilliance of this film and much of that is due to the director of photography, Greig Fraser, one of the best. This film will be remembered as one of the ziggurats of modern science fiction and deserves all the laurels it will receive.

It hasn't been long since a franchise and a singular film captivated and demonstrated so much passion pouring onto the screen. This story, these characters, this planet. Dune comes to fight for its place in the history of science fiction cinema. It's a disservice to the sound and photography experience not to see this film in IMAX, you feel part of each scene.

Fantastic film

Zendaya is a true actress.

It brought me hope!
27 February 2024
This film brought me a different kind of happiness.

It's no masterpiece, but it's good to see that the foundation of what defines the fantasy genre is still alive. The elements that make the genre unique, the details, narrative, interaction, visual and story.

It's undeniable how Peter Jackson changed fantasy forever and this film is greatly influenced by him, but it proves that there is still a horizon for fantasy, one that makes you want to be in the film, be one of the characters, see yourself in the events.

With the right team, it can be adapted several times in the future exploring other adventure narratives from the world of D&G, with a shorter duration and a charismatic cast, the work stands out despite following the action adventure formula, but this allows us to be surprised by the execution.

It brought me hope.
