Stunningly horrible film...
24 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
At least the bad guys won. The only thing it has going for it is wonderful cinematography... but the writer and producer should be condemned to used car sales for the rest of their existence. Would probably be wonderful for an 11 year old who's never seen a scary film before - otherwise, you've been warned!

Plain and SImple -- It Rocks
19 September 2003
I went to this film out of a liking for the "Blade" films and a desire to entertain myself with some black-leather eye-candy (AKA "Beckinsale") -- expecting VERY little. With the starting graphics, annoying voice over and Kate Beckinsale's lack of grace as a vampire I was immediately concerned that I was in for a very poorly executed "me too" flick. But by the time the initial 15 minutes got over with I found myself being pulled into a very captivating and beautiful world. (In fact, the sound was off in the theater, making the dialog sound all hollow and distant, and I was so intrigued by the story I didn't want to go out to complain that I could hardly hear!) Not deep, but then again not nearly as pretentious as most other "comic gothics" lately, and that gives it a charm not at all present in other efforts, Clones, Matrices and Blades. Definitely worth a view.

Like the Anti-christ, this would be the "Anti-Date" movie...
23 December 2002
The film, (based on the premise of a 29 year old self-help guru, who, though she has very little experience in the ways of romance, sells herself off as a romance expert and gets rich selling her dour and pessimistic views of love, but in the end has a revelation of brightness and light) plays very much like a movie, written, directed and starred in by a 29 year-old writer/director/actor who knows nothing about romance but still tries to gets rich selling her dour and pessimistic views of love but in the end has a revelation of brightness and light.

Written, Directed and lead role played by Julie Davis, (can you say "coincidence?"), the movie is filled with dark, self involved and "verymuchinneedofanalysis" characters. And in actuality, the movie's bright spots tend to come from those who are not so neurotic, but who are reacting to the actions of those less-reasonable persons around them.

Still, as an indie, better than most Hollywood fare and definitely containing more than a few yucks, perhaps worth a watch alone, or with same-sex companions. Like the Anti-Christ, this dour little ditty with it's cynical underpinnings plays like the "Anti-Date" of a movie, definitely not a film to share with your sweetie...

3 September 2002
Sorry, I LIKE B movies, and I LIKE John Waters... But this one is so over the top that it simply sucks. Perhaps I just dont get it, but at some level bad becomes sooooooooooo bad it's simply bad, not funny. 2 out of 10.
