Blade Runner (1982)
Timeless visual masterpiece, not very fast-paced
There's nothing to say about this movie that hasn't already been said.
It has some of the best cinematography in cinema history, just every other shot is worthy of being framed.
The special effects are mindblowing. The genius use of miniatures and the creativity behind the effects artists is amazing, and they still hold up today unbelievably well. All the environments look, feel, and hear tangible, genuine, lived in.
The score by Vangelis is breathtaking, as the synthesisers set the mood perfectly.
Most of the characters are written extremely well. They have clear objectives and their own view of the world that polish them as characters.
The plot is simple yet effective, as it does well in not overcomplicating the plot and confusing a new viewer even more after they're put into this dark, vivid world.
The metaphors and hidden meanings of the film are iconic, and serve as a timeless example of balance between entertainment and artistry in cinema.
This movie may be confusing to people not used to paying attention for long or watching complex films, but should be pretty engaging for the majority of people.
It is considered a slow-burner, with around 60-70% of the film having little to no action, and the pacing is slow. Not as slow as a movie like "2001: A Space Odyssey", so it definitely shouldn't serve as a movie to fall asleep to (I'm talking to the dads out there!).
That's about all I can say without spoiling anything, so I give this movie an 8.4/10, so if you end up watching it, remember it's considered one of the greatest science-fiction movies of all time, so enjoy!
