Blonde (2022)
Ana de Armas conjures Marilyn
Ana de Armas who has a heavy spanish accent in real life manages to not only look exactly like Marilyn, (so much that I almost can't believe I've never noticed before) but she really sounds like her too. She is absolutely frighteningly similar in her mannerisms, facial expressions and voice. I can agree with most that this film seems to really hover over the traumatic experiences she endured, which can be very hard to watch, but I think it offers a realistic explanation of how someone, who from the outside seemed to be on top of the world, met such an untimely end. I have a feeling alot of this might be true as horrific and disappointed it all makes us feel. It is no secret that her behavior on set was notoriously chaotic and I feel this film offers an explanation as to why this might have been almost a given after everything that happened to her in her life and career. Do I wish it had focused on how wonderfully talented Marilyn was? Yes, but I think we have her works of art to see that and they are even more special knowing she was not only was acting the role, but battling many many evils of family, hollywood and her own inner demons as well.
The Working Man (1933)
Clever comedy defying ageism
A savvy businessman is aging and begins to gets a bit taken for granted by his nephew at the helm of their company. By happenstance, while on a spiteful fishing trip in Maine he meets a pair of heirs (siblings) in the same line of work. He then gets the opportunity to anonymously flex his business acumen within a rival shoe company and no-one is the wiser! The audience is "in on the joke" and so many funny little situations occur throughout the story because of this. I really like the twists and turns and there is even a little sprinkle of romance. I enjoyed the ending too. The storyline keeps the viewers engaged. Great flick!
Bullet Train (2022)
Bullet Train is Fast Paced FUN!
Snatch meets Snakes on a Plane... Snakes on a train! Refreshing to see Brad Pitt continuing to depart from his typical blockbuster roles and I think this was a good fit following "Once upon a time in Hollywood". Fun to watch him in this film as the self-aware, enlightened "man for hire" who still has a job to do. I have to say his comedic timing was perfect and its almost like where has funny Brad been all our lives?!? I loved the witty english banter amongst the other assassins and the dialogue between the main characters. The visuals of the bullet train speeding through Tokyo were artful and the fast-paced fight scenes held watchers interest without ever overdoing it. It was really funny throughout, even when you didn't expect it to be. Hiroyuki Sanada was amazing as always and I do wish we got to see more of his sons/grandsons backstory. You are somewhat thrust into the storyline in the beginning and figuring it out as it goes along. I give it a solid 8.5 and only detract some because I wish we had more plot pre-story.
Settlers (2021)
Such potential
I have to say the acting is well done. Unfortunately we arent given any background on how any of the resources exist on Mars. The details are painfully vague. We are instead pulled into a drama and the ending is what really killed it for me. They could have given us more to go on for what lay ahead. Abrupt ending and seems like they just ran out of time and its a shame.
An American Pickle (2020)
Herschel is hilarious
This movie was funny! Easygoing and a fun watch! I genuinely laughed throughout the flick; the story was silly but good. I think Seth Rogan did a great job with both characters. Go ahead and watch it for a good laugh!
