Pizza (2005)
Is there a score below 1 out of 10 please ?
I must say, I really mean it, I must! say! it is one of the worst and most pathetic pieces of movie that I ever saw. I tried, God knows I tried to appreciate it! Just so you know, I survived things such as Force-T, The Russian Specialist, Arena and Solo Voyage so it's not bad will. My original goal was to spend a good evening watching this movie. But further and further the minutes advanced, more and more the scenes followed each other, I knew that it was establishing new standards in boringness. I watched it until the end alright, which makes it one hundredth of a star above the movie Le Golem de Montreal: one of the rare films I've ever stopped watching (I should say suffering) because it was awfully unbearable.
Such bad movies as the ones I previously named (exept Le Golem) have one advantage : being bad in a way that makes them funny. Pizza is just bad in a way that makes it pathetic. Makes one wonder how could time, energy, talent and material be wasted to create such a thing. Above all, makes one wonder how to give less than 1 out of 10 to a movie that doesn't even deserve this lowest score.
I won't waste any time talking about things like the acting, the screenplay or directing. I'll just say they're awful, very awful, overall.
If you're looking for a teenage story in the likes of Napoleon Dynamite, forget Pizza. I would rather suggest Harold, which is far from being a masterpiece but still enjoyable and way better than this one.
Casino Royale (2006)
Best Bond ever ? No. Best Bond since the 60' No way. Best of the two last Bonds ? Not even.
What doe's make a Bond movie a good movie ? Why doe's a Bond movie is good ? A Bond movie is good because it's a Bond movie! A Bond movie wouldn't be as good if it was anything else than a Bond movie. What does a Bond need to be Bond ? -A well played James Bond -A potent but never very elaborate plot -A convincing, mysterious and fearable villain -Action, action, action -Breathtaking Bond girls -More action...and chases, always new ways of chasing -Bondness
Casino Royale 2006 has the potential to be a very good Bond, but this potential wasn't correctly exploited. We had an opportunity here, to learn how 007 became 007...they had an opportunity there, to tell how 007 became 007: all was set in place for a tremendous Bond movie; for a surprising recipe with the same old great ingredients. What do we get ? Classic scenario with priorities at the wrong places. We get a look at the first James Bond 007 mission that could easily have been any other than his first. Action scenes not very entertaining, not innovative at all. Lenghts, a lot of. Flaws, 2 big enough to make you drop out of the story. Lack of imagination, lack of new facts about Bond's first days as an agent. A Bond movies says: i'll entertain you from the beginning to the end, if not with the action scenes, with the Bond girls decolletes, with Bond's quotes, with the villain's mysteriousity, with the montage, with the music.... This Bond movie says: look at me, i'm trying so hard to show i'm a Bond movie that i forgot there was place for new stuff in Bond movies.
How did James Bond became James Bond ? Casino Royale won't tell you because in this movie, Bond is already Bond and all they add to him is his 007. This movie could have used a more developed pre-007, pre-MI6 Bond story. A better original score, since this one is i believe, the worst James Bond score ever. More poker scenes; since Texas hold'em is so popular these days why not, if done correctly. More Bondness : exaggeration is the way of Bond movies; exaggeration in a Bond movie is always tolerated because it's in a Bond movie, it's part of the tradition. What this movie could have accomplished is to justify the 20 Bonds that preceded it but, sadly, this movie hardly justify itself.
Dune (1984)
A big piece of cheese
The horrible fx, the bad acting, the wrong casting, songs by toto!!! the ridiculous guildsman who looks like a flying piece of bread...I can't figure out what's the worst in this movie. It was a ridiculous interpretation of the book, and almos an insult. But let's put away the fact that this is an adaptation of the best sci-fi novel of all time and look at the movie as if it was only a movie. Taking Dune only as a movie, well, it's still a very bad one, one of the worst sci-fi movies I ever saw, along with the Arena, T-Force, or The Soldier with Kurt Russel. Dune has ablolutely no cohesion. 1h20 is spent for putting us in situation, then, there's 40 minutes left for the rest, witch is thrown at us in an orgy of bad editing, incomplete informations, confused scenario and very, oh my lord! so very bad acting! Try to put a 500 pages book in a 2 hours movie and here's what you get. Now there's a new extended version, but the short version is so bad and so off the track according to the book that i don't even want to give new version a chance.
