To James:

The Angry Video Game Nerd The Movie is something really special. The quality of the film from the writing to the special effects can be hit and miss, but I don't believe that this is a movie you can judge the same way you might do with others.

That is to say, it has its flaws and it could have had improvements all around, but it is what it is and that's the movie. Ultimately, this movie is a masterpiece in the way Glen or Glenda is a masterpiece -it's pure expression from a first time artist that goes against the grain.

Overall, Cinemassacre Productions makes me happy. Even just watching James and Mike Mondays makes me happier than watching most feature films or even playing video games for myself. Does that make me a fanboy? I don't know, I just know what entertains me and Cinemassacre videos seldom fail to do that.

So what about the AVGN The Movie? I say it's a special case to judge because it is the execution of a first timer and his dream and a successful one! It is definitely a movie and it definitely is a James movie. Maybe if I didn't know what Cinemassacre was then I would have a different opinion, but as a movie a lot of aspects do indeed work and that's what's important for a first production.

I see a lot of reviews bashing the comedy. I'm an amateur stand-up comic and work really hard at it by performing regularly. I know how hard it is to write a joke on paper and execute it perfectly using your intended voice. It's way different than it is when joking around with your friends. A lot of the jokes don't land when you do a new set, but even if one does you've succeeded and you keep at it. Heck, even if none land, you've still succeeded! This movie has a handful of really solid jokes in my opinion, namely Eddie Pepitone's entire scene and the bone turning out to be wood line had me in tears.

James you have made an excellent first production and I think you should keep doing comedies. Even Ed Wood ended up doing Night of the Ghouls later on and that is a solid horror film. Thanks for all the good times! I really think you should make a video and joke around with some of the bad reviews!

Great picture!

Get a Real Taste of Hong Kong Humor
13 April 2007
Vincent Kok is known for ripping off western movies and making Cantonese versions (see Super Model; total Zoolander rip) which isn't the worst thing in the world actually. Dragon Loaded 2003 is kind of like Police Academy but it's got it's own style as well. You really can't expect too much from it, you just have to let go and watch. If your a local Hong Konger then you will definitely enjoy! If it doesn't serve as being funny it definitely serves it's helping of being cute. One thing in particular I really enjoyed was the music; there's some pretty funny rock ballad style songs going on in the montages! The cast is great, the dialog is pretty interesting, and the movie moves at a great pace. Check it out if you want a taste of Chinese fun! PS: Don't see the sequel.
