Rogue One (2016)
Great Movie with Theatre Origins
Rogue One is a Shakespearean tragedy and AMAZING!!! It is very unique to find a film that breaks the 'American' mold, especially from a profitable series like Star Wars.
We, as Americans, want everything candy coated with happy endings in our movies. It's been the Disney model with their fairy tale cartoons for MANY years. Sorry. That's not what this film delivers, and thank you for offering true story telling while skipping the fluff.
The lack of light saber action was refreshing. Like a good climax, we don't get that thing we WANT until the very end. All I will say about the final moments is, we love you Carrie Fisher!
I was not impressed by the large plastic cod pieces on the black storm troopers in the opening scenes. Redesign that costume element Disney. Cod pieces are out, they look clunky and are distracting flapping around when they walk. The cod pieces did help to set the Shakespearean tone, if that's what you were going for.
I highly recommend the newest installment of Star Wars Rogue One without hesitation.
Ich war neunzehn (1968)
Wes Anderson Style
This movie is superb!
If you enjoy Wes Anderson, then watch this film! It's very similar in characters, cinematography, costuming and actor blocking.
What a powerful message to the German people at the same time. This piece of art calls out their hatred and is quite blunt about it.
No spoilers, but I love that the lead Russian soldier is German. It adds a sense of rebellion to his actions.
It's refreshing and fun to watch. Again, I highly recommend this to Wes Anderson fans. The cinematography is fantastic! Great long shots, close ups and framed scenes.
A film definitely worth finding and owning. :)
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
BIRDMAN earned every honor.
As a theater actor turned film actor, I think BIRDMAN attacks the very ego of an industry that is misunderstood by the public, and it's fantastic! This film exposes the underbelly of living with fame and it is shot beautifully. The long shot cinematography leaves the viewer wondering how the film was edited, but does not distract from the story.
The ensemble cast is GREAT. Very realistic and honest. Like we are invited into the personal life of these "real" people. The characters cause us to latch on and want more as an audience.
Michael Keaton bares his soul and delivers cinema magic. This film is an instant classic! Congratulations to everyone who worked on BIRDMAN for a job well done!
