Great date movie!
21 March 2005
I found this movie on cable on dreary evening in winter. It was light and delightful and funny. The plot follows at a great pace, the characters are memorable, and Phil is hilarious. Call me naive, but I followed the movie at face value, not trying to guess what is going to happen next, and found it very entertaining. When you expect too much from a film like this, you are looking to watch a different movie. This is light romantic comedy at its finest. The casting was on mark and I really enjoy Ben and Matt in these minor roles where they are just having fun, I don't think they do that enough in movies anymore. Happy to see Melissa McCarthy (Sookie of Gilmore Girls) kiss Ben, and Jeff Garlin along with a really solid ensemble cast of comedic actors. Small movie, great cast, lots of fun.

Mr. Deeds (2002)

Warm and refreshing return for Sandler
28 June 2002
Mr. Deeds is a classic story. This version of the film keeps the corny feelings of this small town American every man alive. Sandler has once again surrounded himself with talented people to bring a modern sense to Mr. Deeds. I really enjoy the humor of Sandler. He is not an actor, but is funny. The film allows him to be that, funny and charming, while the other character help move the story along. I was happy to see more of the same success from his previous films and leave the edgy Nicky behind.

The one draw back to this film is in the editing. There are some parts of the movie that go for the joke e.g. ‘you a virgin? Who would believe that?' In the trailers, on it's own I can see the humor. But it is obviously inserted for the laugh as the time of the date is mentioned before the phone call scene to make the date. Small editing problems gave this movie a sense of odd pacing. All of the humor fit, but it was in the wrong places some times.

Overall great experience, another win from Sandler, with a great soundtrack, and fun games on the CD.
