Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye (2023)
Great narration, short & touching story
Once in a while such heart touching, well narrated movie is done, Raj B Shetty has done a great job in direction, kept it simple & straight forward. Movie starts with a good background of Prerana's daily chores at home & her job as counsellor, how its taking a toll on her is shown pretty well.
Short scenes between Prerana & husband of the sick wife touches on helplessness of senior citizens / nuclear family situation in India, also the dialogue between Prerana & her mother talking about she liking Aniket (Raj B Shetty) is written well.. and it goes something like this:
'... as a mother hearing from a married daughter that you like another person, is not a good thing, but as women I understand your feelings'
Kudos to Ramya for producing this, I think Siri Ravikumar (as Prerana) has done well, and she suits the role well & done better than having Ramya in that role.
2018 (2023)
Fails at story building around the 2018 floods in Kerala
First Malayalam movie in Theatre (big fan of Malayalam movies, after watching a lot of them on OTT), few good things..
1. Scenes around flooding / rains have been shot well
2. Couple of characters (blind person & specially abled kid) have done well (even with their limited screen time)
Several things the director could have done a better job:
1. Script tries to tell a story using too many characters, should have limited to couple of families & build a story
2. Unwanted Tamilian / Kerala hate thing
3. 2hr 30m is too long for this movie, and could have been done in 90mins with a story around the flooding day.
Petromax (2022)
Great entertainer!
Amazing screenplay, good sense of humour, no attempt to project heroism, great but subtle message to the society -- it has everything to make it a MUST watch movie.
If you liked Jaggesh's Neer Dose movie, you would love this as well, follows the similar short, straight forward dialogues, lot of outdoor shooting that looks candid & a few bold scenes.
Loved the message to the person watching, you are not orphan by birth -- but based on how you grow up in the society & take care of parents. It comes out in a subtle manner, sprinkled with a lot of humor.
This is my first IMDB Rating, and looking at current rating of 5.9, it's a shame & insult to the director / producer.. I really hope Sathish does more such movies / scripts in this genre.
