Welcome to Wrexham (2022)
What's so good about it?
This was my question before I started watching. If it was just continual episodes showing game clips and inarticulate swearing, it would soon get boring. But the way they've rung the changes by throwing in episodes about Welsh Culture and History has been brilliant - I'm Welsh and I learnt some new things!
The production has been great, and they've given sideways glances at so many aspects of Wrexham and football in general. They haven't shied away from some of the unpleasant side of things either. The episode addressing football hooliganism was a hard watch in places, and I felt uncomfortable that they gave a platform to one local thug, but it was valuable to hear that story, although heartbreaking that his girlfriend lost out on a job because of him.
Best of all, I've learned that footballers and managers are real people too. Who knew?
The Sandman: The Sound of Her Wings (2022)
Hands up, up who loves Death?
I was very fond of Death in the comic, so had reservations about the changes made here. Fears entirely groundless, Death is as wonderful as ever. So nice that they take the time to introduce her character. By the end of the chapter, you feel genuine affection for her.
The story of the guy given immortality resonated with me for many years, and the show handled this brilliantly also. Loved the fact that some tosser was still in the pub banging on 400 later about "the trouble with the dole....."
Omnibus: All My Loving (1968)
Very frustrating
Considering the access to bands and people this is just really annoying! The volume has not been balanced at all. I want to hear the interviews and when the bands playing I expect it to kick in loud. Instead they turn it down to 2 and you can barely hear it.
