Paris Trout (1991 TV Movie)

Pretty rough, but great movie!!!
6 May 2008
Paris Trout is a pretty rough movie. Sometimes it gets too hard to watch, but there is a good reason behind this choice of the director. Rascists are mentally ill people most of the times. If not ill surely misguided. Paris trout is a nearly crazy man and all he deserves is what he gets in the end. This movie is pretty good. Acting is simply excellent. Dennis Hopper makes a great job in his very disgusting role. Ed Harris is once again the big catch in the movie. He gives a great depth to his character. Writing is pretty beautiful. Makes you wonder about many things. Direction is very solid. Everything with this movie was about right. Watch it, but be prepared. It's tough watching movies like that.

Bad film
6 November 2007
I am a fan of Ed Harris' work and I really had high expectations about this film. Having so good actors as Harris and Von Sydow is always a big advantage for a director but if the script is bad what can you do? I really think that Needful Things is the worst movie of Harris' filmography and that getting involved with it was a huge mistake. Anyway, I've seen much worse movies in my life but Needful Things was a disappointment because of the waste of acting talent. The story as an overall seems too unbelievable and fake. I don't know if that is because of the book, 'cause I haven't read it. But if the script was so bad, I can't see the reason for filming it. Maybe it was the commercial success of King's books, or the need for low-quality movies for the VHS era of the 90's. Whatever the reason was, though, this movie was a very bad choice for anyone involved.

On of the greatest De Niro films of the 90's
9 October 2007
Robert De Niro is one of the greatest actors of his time. We all have witnessed his brilliance in so many classic roles. And he made these roles that big. No one is better than him in emerging into characters. In This Boy's Life he had a pretty good script to work on and he really gives an amazing performance. The scene where he fights with Di Caprio is simply unbelievably flawless. Di Caprio is a very gifted actor. In this beautiful movie he gave a pretty convincing early sample of what was about to come. So, in this movie you have two great actors, a good director and an overall well made film. You won't be haunted by the experience of watching it but you will surely love it.

Redford's Best?
8 October 2007
This movie is simply perfect. Pollack always loved making movies about nature and its relationship with people. On this one he managed to reach a high level of perfection. It's a well driven character movie. It's not western, it's not documentary, it's not pure drama. It's a little bit of everything, but mostly a study about human communication and feelings. Jeremiah was a man who wanted his privacy, liked to be free. He yearned for freedom and in his loneliness he found a family to love. And when he did it didn't last. So, Jeremiah became an animal with just his instict for survival left in him. Robert Redford gives his greatest performance to date in this masterpiece. He always uses his eyes as a mirror to the soul of his characters and in this beautiful movie you seem to forget that Jeremiah Johnson is just a movie character. You feel his anger, hear his yearning for love. Redford should have won an Oscar on this one, but who cares after all?

Jacknife (1989)

An Afterwar Masterpiece
20 May 2007
Jacknife is a masterpiece of the 80's. It's a movie that breaths through amazing acting and a very interesting directing touch. In Jacknife both lovers of European and American cinema can find things to relate on. The screenplay is very compelling and full of beautiful characters. Ed Harris is giving one of the greatest performances up to date. He portrays his alcoholic hero superbly making us feel his broken heart in each line, in each move. Robert De Niro makes us once again think of him as one of the greatest actors of all time in one of the simplest but also most realistic performances in his career. Jacknife is never getting boring as it shows its heroes clear of any typical Hollywood's typical character elements. After the war none is a hero. Everybody is a loser, and this movie is about that simple truth. None can mend up his pieces after a war, just like the heroes of this movie. Jacknife is about the diseases of the soul that war creates. Simply magnificent movie.
