Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
A heart-stopping finale to the career of a heart-stopping artist
As if we didn't already know Kubrick was the greatest filmmaker of all time, he proved it yet again with this, his final film, an epic and dark masterpiece. I won't give a plot summary, as so many people have and the plot itself is fairly simple to follow. Cruise is amazing at the height of his career (his Oscar-nominated performance in Magnolia followed) and Kidman is captivating in her monologue early in the film, the revelation which sets in motion the strange and eerie events of the film. Kubrick's talent is once again visible, employing classical music as well as an unsettling piano tune which plays during the second half (by Gyorgy Ligeti) to sink us in, as well as a mysterious plot which pulls us without warning into a dark world of sexual discovery. Cruise plays his frustrated doctor character with ease and skill, one of the best performances by an actor in a leading role in 1999. If you're a fan of Kubrick (or even if you aren't), this is a must-see.
Buffalo '66 (1998)
Gallo is excellent and hilarious!
I had heard of the controversy surrounding Brown Bunny, and after hearing of its graphic content and mainly negative reviews, intended not to see it. I still haven't. However, when I spotted BUFFALO '66 in the book 1001 MOVIES YOU MUST SEE BEFORE YOU DIE, and read the short plot summary, I thought, "this doesn't sound too bad." Upon hearing that Gallo had directed, written, composed the score and acted in this movie, I realized he must be talented. Christina Ricci had impressed me in Monster, and I'd always loved Angey Huston and Ben Gazzara, so I thought "why not give it a look?"
I did not regret it.
A tale of violence without the blood and guts, a tale of mental instability without the meltdown, and a tale of sexuality without the sex, I enjoyed watching Vincent Gallo and Christina Ricci's unmistakable chemistry and amazingly wordless conversations (well, on Ms. Ricci's part anyway), particularly the scene in the photo booth which will always make me laugh.
Overall it is a touching, funny love story that I will not quickly forget, and strongly urge you to see.
Note: Gallo's character is an excellent bowler, and this film was released in the same year as the Coen's Big Lebowski. Coincidence?
Who knows?
Lonelygirl15 (2006)
LG15: Let's Go
Let's go.
Lonelygirl15, the longest running, most effective internet series ever to shake the world of the internet is available for the watching on either YouTube or the LG15 website itself. LG15 follows the adventures of Bree, a comically weird internet blogger, and her friend Danielbeast. The blogs start out like any other normal blogs, but slowly escalate into a heart pumping series like no other before. On the run from the mysterious organization The Order, Bree and Daniel meet new people (Gemma, Jonas, etc) and discover more about the secret that burdens inside them. As the chase begins, and the ladder starts falling, Bree and all Lonelygirls are running out of time to stop the Order and save themselves, in this short serialized masterpiece that has slowly become a YouTube phenomena.
A highly effective series, I severely convince you to watch this series, and see if it's high powered adrenaline-fueled pump of existence is enough for you. Are you in?
Let's go.
Se7en (1995)
What's inside the box??!!
A superb movie with plenty of action and plenty of mystery. Morgan Freeman delivers your moneys worth playing Detective William Somerset. Brad Pitt delivers a better than beef performance as Mills as well. What really shocked me (in a good way) was the end scene. Mills and Doe standing in the desert. Somerset opening the box and coughing. I've never seen such a look on Morgan Freeman's face. Of disgust. Of shock. Of terror? And I agree with him. John Doe has the upper hand.
But the fact you don't see in the box is the best part. Just amazing. SEE THIS MOVIE!!! You will love it! P.S.: If you do see this movie, watch out for the Sloth victim. It will give you a fright. The Lust victim is also quite creepy.
The X Files: Monday (1999)
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and Monday and Monday and Monday and Monday and Monday and etc
Another amazing episode of the X Files. No scratch that, a spectacular episode of the X Files. Possibly the best. Along with my other top ten which I will quickly list after this comment. This comment contains spoilers. In this episode, Mulder is having the worst day of his life. His waterbed springs a leak, causing his alarm clock to short out and his cellphone to die. Also, in his apartment he is not supposed to have a waterbed anyway, so that makes him late for a very special FBI meeting and ya, he is having the baddest day ever. Anyway, he has to make a trip to the bank where a suicidal and/or homicidal bank robber maniac so in the end the bank blows up with Mulder, Scully and the bank robber inside, killing them all, then the day starts over again and yeah, it goes on like that. For no reason, I am presenting to you my top ten X Files episodes. 1: Field Trip 2: Monday 3: Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose 4: Impropable 5: Bad Blood 6: X Cops 7: Closure 8: The Truth 9: Release 10: Tithonus
The Simpsons: Hit & Run (2003)
BIG SPOILERS! *the game story*
This game rocks! And I'm here to tell you the game story. Here we go! SPOILER: Homer discovers Buzz Cola, the latest craze and gets addicted; as well as that, Homer notices strange wasp cameras and black sedans which seem to lead to Mr. Burns which is a coincidence and a worse embarrassment than the time Homer was disqualified from the hot dog eating contest. So now we're onto level 2 with Bart, notice the card on top of Jebadiah's head. Bart's after Bonestorm II, the latest and most violent game out. Which leads him to escape from Skinner, collect illegal fireworks and help Frink to create a death fire-breathing dinosaur killing machine! Which leads up to Bart getting abducted by aliens and Lisa stopping at nothing to find him. (In L3, watch out for the mission where Milhouse stalks Lisa!) Lisa helps Comic Book Guy, Milhouse, Apu, and even Captain McCallister. When she does find him, he is knocked up (not the drunk knocked up the crazy knocked up) and Marge goes through strange crop circles to find out the truth. And that's just the first half of the game! :-)
The X Files: Squeeze (1993)
"What was that?" "I think it was something in the vent." "Well go check it out!" "Fine!" "Say Hello to Eugene!" "AAAAHHH!"
Whoa! Right from the top sailing beginning to the bottom breaking end, this max floor chill ride keeps on going! Man Tooms is my favorite villain! Love him! Haven't got the chance to see "Tooms" yet, though, but wow! What an amazing villain! This could quite possibly be one of my favorite X Files episodes! Look out for other comments by foxy_mulder (me!) and if you haven't seen Squeeze, see it! The third episode of Season One attracted me. I saw every episode of season one except Pilot, Deep Throat, Tooms, and Roland. I love this show and recommend it immediately. What a great episode! I'm signing out now, and best wishes to you all.
The X Files: X-Cops (2000)
Good Cop, X Cop
Mulder and Scully are followed around by a "Cops" camera crew while investigating a monster that "feeds on fear". I felt that this episode had some parts that were somewhat similar to some parts in "The Blair Witch Project." 'Nuff said, I don't wanna spoil the whole thing for some people but really, if you haven't seen it, you must simply see it it is brill brill (my word for brilliant *wink*) A clap clap clap nine star episode and their are many other X-Files episodes I will recommend for you. 4x14: Leonard Betts 4x15: Memento Mori (which means 'Remember you will die') 3x03: D.P.O. 3x12: War of the Coprophages 4x22: Elegy 5x06: The Post-Modern Prometheus 1x02: Squeeze 1x20: Tooms (Squeeze II) 2x20: Humbug 2x18: Fearful Symmetry 6x02: Drive 6x07: The Rain King 6x09: Tithonus and many more!
Night Skies (2007)
A great movie with spooky moments not for the faint hearted
Night Skies(2007) is a great movie with spooky moments definitely not for the faint hearted. On the DVD disk you can SEE more of Richard and Lily on the UFO and HEAR more gunshot and screams. And if you watch closely in the scene where Richard is in the forest after shooting the other guy, you can see a real freaky alien! Yipes! I flinched after later glimpsing the alien again when Richard got back on the RV. Totally scary as we see Lily running for her life(or maybe it was one of the other girls ?) and trying to make it till morning after they get abducted and Richie has to kill her. Yipes! The cops at the end of the film find Richie scared as hell! Definitely not to miss! 9.98/10! Hire it out or buy it today!
Liar Liar (1997)
Jim Carrey at his best!
I don't consider myself the movie expert, in fact, I suppose I'm just a critic, but this is Jim Carrey at his b-e-s-t! I mean I've seen a lot of other Jim Carrey movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and many more but this is Jimmy at his best. Liar Liar is a funny, memorable, and in some ways dramatic film. It is about a lying lawyer whose son makes a birthday wish that he can't lie for a day. It causes all kinds of funny problems for him. It is amazing. I recommend everyone in California who hasn't seen it(and other people as well) to see it! All though, most of it's comedy is too...well, Jim Carrey and the creators have tried too hard to make this funny. The Outtakes in the credits are the best part of the movie. Yours sincerely.
True Lies (1994)
The Most Amazing Action Film ever made in the history of the 20th century
True Lies is the most amazing Action Film ever made in the history of the 20th century! Yah, dude! This movie is tight! With amazing performances by Arnie(our fav action dude) and Tom Arnold(the humor master who makes the movie funny! hey, so does Arnie). With cool scenes eg. the scene where Arnie is on his horse in the elevator with the old people and in the other elevator you can see the baddie raising a knife at a womans throat. Amazing! And don't we love the scene where Arnie has to save his daughter. And total chemistry in "the bridge is out!" scene. An amazing thriller with everything we all want. I would rate this 100 if I could. Didn't expect to see Charlton Heston with an eyepatch but it fit in with the movie. Jamie Lee does a good performance too! Fit in with violence and stuff. Arnie being an agent, and his wife thinking' he's a salesman. This is once in a lifetime stuff, dude. If you haven't seen this film, I strongly advise you to. If you have, I recommend the following titles: OO7 movies(eg Dr.No etc), Lethal Weapon(1,2,3,4), and Speed. Enjoy
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
amazingly touching film
This movie--Little Miss Sunshine--is unarguably the best movie of the beginning of the 21st century. It is an amazingly touching film with funny, stupid, and even more funny scenes that are not to be missed at all. Believe in movies like these because they are here to teach us all a lesson that no matter what age we are, we can do anything we want to. This movie is mainly about happiness, sadness, and the want to do something, even if it's enter a beauty pageant or go to the NAVY, we can do it. No matter what. With a bit of encouragement and belief, it is always possible. Watch this movie and you'll agree. My net name is michealdouglasman and I think this movie rocks! 10 out of 10, dude! If you like this I also recommend Are We There Yet? and Road Trip.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
I love this film!!!!!
S*p*o*i*l*e*r! This movie is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! It is compelling and amazingly powerful. Jack Nicholson does an amazing act playing Randle Patrick McMurphy(a.k.a R.P.McMurphy), who gets sent into a mental hospital after (i don't remember what he did). He brightens up the place for most of the patients, but for the 'evil' Nurse Ratchet he is making it hell. At the end Billy Biggins is found dead with blood dripping from his body. That's when McMurphy violently attacks and starts strangling Nurse Ratchet believing she was responsible for Billys tragic death. Later, you find Nurse Ratchet with a thing around her neck. And you find out that they've taken a piece out of McMurphys body and made him, to put it simple, mindless. So Chief suffocates him with a pillow, knowing now that he can't escape with him. After doing that he picks up the fountain thing, throws it out the window and runs away. An amazing finish!
The X Files (1998)
The X Files is a powerful sci fi movie that makes you believe
The X Files movie is a powerful Sci-Fi movie that makes you believe that alien life may exist. Most people think this is baloney, but even if you haven't seen any of the TV Show, this movie will introduce you to the world of aliens and space life you never thought. Watch along and soon, if you're not a believer you will be. With climactic, exciting, and unbelievable scenes to be seen. This film is definitely a MUST SEE! Starring David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully etc. Directed by Rob Bowman. Created by Chris Carter. Rated PG-13 for low level violence and frightening scenes. I hope you find this film & enjoy it! Bye!
