Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Unique and Brilliant
This movie takes the classical tragic love story and tells it in a unique and beautiful way. The colors, the drama, the dizzy wonderment really captures you in the film and causes you to feel the good and the bad with the characters. (And though it is a love story guys - it is NOT a chick-flick) Pure genius to use Madonna, The Police, Nirvana and many more in a film taking place in 1900 Paris and actually make it work. To appreciate Moulin Rouge, you have to over look a seemingly simplistic plot and dialogue and enter into a fantastical world of music, dance, color and unique cinematography. In film style it reminds me of a combination of Brazil and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (a bizarre combo I know). I am in love with this movie and have been recommending it to everyone (something I rarely do). Watch it, enjoy it!
Black Circle Boys (1997)
Warning!! Don't waste your time!
This is the all time bad movie that my boyfriend and I use to compare all other bad movies. Even when seeing a horrifically awful movie, we always say, "atleast it wasn't as bad as Black Circle Boys". What can one say about such an awful movie. The plot was pointless, you feel nothing for any of the characters, all satanism brings them is a bad garage band and alot of drugs in the woods. What makes this movie so bad isn't the acting it is the writing. This movie could have had a good b-horror movie premise, but instead it is reduced to adolescent mewling between bong hits in the woods. In summary...stay away...stay very far away. I feel sorry everytime I am in the video store and see that Black Circle Boys has been rented...it means some poor shnook is wasting almost 2 hours of his/her life.
