The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Excellent, but different feel
I can say without any morale reprehension to rush out and see The Two Towers. While comparing it to Fellowship would be nearly impossible. The way I see it these films are two different types, while Fellowship was character development with enough action to keep you excited, Towers is action with enough character development to keep you caring. It's hard to say which is better because I feel that I have reached the middle part of one fantastic nine hour epic film, and you don't find people saying what third of a movie they liked best. The acting in Two Towers is top notch, as it was to be expected. But the true stand out wasn't who you would have expected, it was Gollum. If ever a CGI character deserved an Academy award or at least a nomination, it is Gollum. The CGI is so beleivable its creepy and the acting really lets you see whats going on inside of his head. This was a difficult job you could tell but Serkis pulled it off with style. The action will keep you begging for more as Jackson never ceases to amaze you with what he can do with the camera. So go now, stop reading and then wait a year until you can watch the extended edition in preparation for Return of the King
Wrong Numbers (2001)
Nice try.
I went out and rented this film because I had heard that it had won the audience award and it was supposedly funny. Sadly this film just left me with a stone face. I only found a few saving moments that I felt compelled to smile at, but that was it. Overall this movie was very disappointing. For such a cheaply made film it looked good, the quality was fine, acting was acceptable for the most part. The problem lied with the story, screenplay, and the premise. I mean sure pretty much everyone has been found wanting beer and couldn't get it. And who knows it might even be a funny gag in a movie, but thats it a funny gag. I don't see why someone would feel the need to stretch it out to a full length film. This film is quite boring and doesn't deliver on any level, what started out as a bad joke is dragged and beaten out into a long drawn out borefest. Avoid this movie if you can.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Amazing film.
First off, let me say how frustrated I have become from reading the mainstream and many of the other reviews. They have been harping how Lucas writes corny or flat out bad dialogue. Or how AOTC is nothing but cheap eye candy. (eye candy maybe, cheap no) All I'm trying to say is that all of his films have that corny dialogue, its entertaining, it is a signature of being a Star Wars movie and it's something we love about it. As for people nit picking the CG, well all I can say is that is absolutely absurd.
Now onto the film.
This movie is FANTASTIC. I'm not going to blab on about the plot that you have heard over and repeatedly. I'll just let you know that this is a great movie, and if you haven't seen it yet go, watch, and enjoy. I walked into the theatre with high hopes and walked out with a smile ten miles wide on my face. This movie is well worth the price of a ticket. I plan on seeing it again, and perhaps even again. I may be as so bold to say that this may be the best Star Wars film yet. But that might just be the Star Wars daze hitting me. Reasons why I will have to let this digest and maybe see it again to make sure. But it definetly ranks up there with Empire.
Donnie Darko (2001)
dark darker darktastic
Donnie Darko is a clever film that will leave you thinking for several days afterwards. After you think you have it figured out you will want to watch it again....and then probably again. This movie seems to like to provide the 'goods', it has comedy, suspense, sci-fi...a real pleaser...at least to me. Why you bother reading this i do not know...just go out and watch the movie...i can almost guarantee you will love something about this film...if not the whole film
Resident Evil (2002)
its no tomb raider
This movie is leaps and bounds better than other filthy video game movies, such as tomb raider...while this film is much better than that waste of celluloid its not that good...it has such huge gaps in it i dont know what happened....like the t virus turns all these people into zombies...and they somehow upon turning into zombies became these mangled axe weilding psychos...i know they are zombies but when did they get beat up...and there are rooms full of them...but then the rooms conveniently empty when they needed to add some dialogue to the movie...or when we find out who the bad guy he ...he is instantly able to move among the zombies without a care in the world...until he gets to the train that is...and then there are just stupid things...for instance, the whole lazer cutting defense system that kills the good half of the rescue squad...why not just have the grid lazer at the beginning...there is no need for this top lazer...bottom lazer that pops up in anticipation of your jump..and then the grid..what is that filth...overall i would say this film has not evaded the inescapable doom of being a video game movie...wait till its on USA up all night
