Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024)
Heeramandi: Was This Journey Necessary?
I approached "Heeramandi" with high hopes, drawn in by its opulent sets and the promise of a rich narrative. Unfortunately, the series quickly proved to be a tedious watch. The first episode alone felt so stretched that, despite my best efforts, I couldn't bring myself to complete it. It seemed more suited to a movie format, prompting me to question the necessity of elongating the story into a series. The sets, though visually stunning, couldn't compensate for the deficiencies in acting and storytelling. A beautiful backdrop is essentially just that-a backdrop-and cannot carry a series on its own. The lackluster performances and weak plot left me disappointed, as I expected a show of this scale to offer much more depth and engagement. The mixed reviews online also made me wonder about their authenticity. How many of these are genuine, and how many are influenced? In conclusion, "Heeramandi" was a letdown where its visual appeal was overshadowed by its failure to deliver a compelling story or memorable performances.
Murder Mubarak (2024)
A Missed Opportunity
Netflix's "Murder Mubarak" arrives with a premise ripe for intrigue and suspense but unfortunately falls flat, failing to capitalise on its potential. What could have been a gripping murder mystery turns into a predictable slog, marred by straightforward storytelling that allows the audience to pinpoint the murderer far too early in the narrative.
The film assembles a commendable cast, suggesting that stellar performances could be expected. However, the reality is a stark contrast. Despite the presence of notable talent, the performances are underwhelming, lacking the depth and complexity required to elevate the material. It's disheartening to see good actors not being utilized to their full potential, leaving one to wonder about the direction and script they were given.
Furthermore, the editing does the film no favors. Instead of creating a tightly woven narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, the movie meanders, stretching thin material over an unnecessarily extended runtime. This pacing issue exacerbates the film's predictability, making the viewing experience more tedious than thrilling.
While "Murder Mubarak" had the ingredients for a memorable addition to the murder mystery genre, it ultimately succumbs to its shortcomings. Predictable plotting, lackluster acting, and poor editing are significant detriments.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Fun Yet Falls Short of Expectations
As someone who isn't a die-hard DC enthusiast but enjoyed the first Aquaman movie, I had high hopes for "Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom." The film does deliver some enjoyable aspects, particularly with its fun scenes and notable bromance elements, which add a lighter touch to the narrative. However, the movie doesn't quite live up to its potential. The story, while engaging in parts, ultimately feels underdeveloped. The title suggests a grand exploration of the 'lost kingdom', but this intriguing element only makes a significant appearance towards the end, leaving much to be desired in terms of storytelling depth. Furthermore, the villain of the piece is somewhat lackluster. A strong antagonist can elevate a superhero movie, but here, the villain feels underwhelming and fails to pose a substantial challenge to our hero. This issue is compounded by the introduction of a main villain in the last act, who, despite the buildup, is swiftly dealt with in less than a minute. This rushed conclusion detracts from the overall impact of the film's climax. In summary, "Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom" is a decent watch for those looking for light entertainment, but it falls short of the high standards set by its predecessor. The movie is fun but doesn't fully explore its most promising elements, leaving viewers with a sense of what could have been.
Animal (2023)
Animal: A Gripping Tale of Action, Acting, and Audience Hypocrisy
"Animal" delves into the realms of toxic masculinity with a bold and unapologetic narrative, presenting a glaring contrast to the hypocrisy of contemporary audiences. It's intriguing to observe the dichotomy in viewer reactions, as those who applaud the dark and gritty themes in "Game of Thrones," "Sacred Games," and "Gangs of Wasseypur" seem to waver when confronted with similar content in this film. This disparity highlights the selective sensitivities and contradictions in how audiences perceive challenging themes. The film's action sequences are a testament to its cinematic excellence. Crafted with precision and intensity, they provide a visceral and exhilarating experience that elevates the movie's overall impact. Complementing these high-octane scenes is the exceptional acting. Ranbir and Bobby deliver captivating and nuanced performances, adding depth and complexity to their characters. Anil Kapoor, too, makes a significant mark with his compelling portrayal, enriching the film's narrative fabric. An additional layer to the movie's immersive experience is its memorable background music. The soundtrack adeptly enhances the emotional depth and tension of scenes, weaving together the film's thematic and aesthetic elements. However, "Animal" is not without its flaws. The storyline, while engaging at the outset, becomes stretched and loses momentum, particularly in the second half. This pacing issue detracts from the film's initial promise, leaving a feeling of unfulfilled potential. Overall, "Animal" stands as a powerful cinematic piece, notable for its action, acting, and music. Yet, it's also a reflective mirror to the audience, challenging their perceptions and attitudes towards dark themes. While it shines in many aspects, its narrative pacing prevents it from being a completely cohesive and satisfying experience.
Napoleon (2023)
"Napoleon: A Disappointing Glance at a Historical Colossus
"Napoleon," the latest historical drama to hit theaters, promised an in-depth look at one of history's greatest military minds but sadly misses the mark. The film's portrayal of Napoleon Bonaparte leans heavily into his personal life, particularly his relationship with his first wife, which, while dramatic, detracts from what could have been a fascinating exploration of his military prowess. For a figure celebrated for his strategic genius, the film's narrative feels surprisingly disjointed. The story lacks a cohesive focus on Napoleon's notable accomplishments and strategies in warfare, which is what I, and presumably many others, were most excited to see. Instead, the pacing drags, focusing more on melodramatic elements that fail to compellingly narrate the life of the legendary general. The war scenes, while decent, do not do justice to Napoleon's strategic brilliance. They're adequate in their depiction but lack the depth and insight into how Napoleon changed the face of military tactics. This surface-level treatment is a disservice to his legacy. The film does offer a unique perspective by showcasing a more vulnerable side of Napoleon, often overlooked in historical portrayals. However, this focus on his personal vulnerabilities overshadows his extraordinary military achievements. For someone not well-versed in Napoleonic history, the movie feels like a missed opportunity to truly understand the reasons behind his lasting fame as a military leader. In essence, "Napoleon" is a film that had the potential to offer a compelling, multifaceted portrayal of one of history's most iconic figures. Instead, it settles into a slow-paced drama that fails to capture the essence of Napoleon's military genius. While it might appeal to those interested in the personal dramas of historical figures, for those looking to appreciate Napoleon as the formidable general he was, this movie is, unfortunately, a letdown.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Oppenheimer: A Grand Yet Intimate Biopic
"Oppenheimer" is a stellar addition to Christopher Nolan's lineup. This movie showcases Nolan's gift for visuals with stunning cinematography that captures the intensity of its historical backdrop. The performances are top-notch, with Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. Delivering particularly standout performances, enriching the narrative with their depth and complexity.
The film's pace is leisurely, giving audiences time to immerse in the story's vast scope. While some might find this slower rhythm slightly prolonged, it affords a detailed exploration of J. Robert Oppenheimer's life and times.
As a long-standing fan of Nolan's work, I hold "Interstellar" as his finest creation. This is my personal opinion and does not take away from the brilliance of "Oppenheimer". It is a deeply engaging film, filled with memorable performances and spectacular visuals. "Oppenheimer" is a must-watch for any Nolan enthusiast and anyone who appreciates masterfully crafted biopics.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a phenomenal addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the best movies to come after Endgame. This movie brilliantly showcases the character growth of our beloved guardians, taking them to new heights both emotionally and physically. The humor is top-notch and will have you laughing out loud throughout the entire film.
The action in this movie is nothing short of spectacular, with stunning visuals and mind-blowing sequences that will leave you on the edge of your seat. The story progression is flawlessly executed, taking the audience on a wild and emotional ride that will leave you satisfied and fulfilled.
Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one of the best Marvel trilogy movies out there, and a must-see for any Marvel fan. With its perfect blend of humor, action, and heart, this movie is a true testament to the genius of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Don't miss out on this epic adventure.
Suzume no Tojimari (2022)
Suzume: A Delightful Anime Adventure Best Enjoyed Without Prejudices
I recently had the pleasure of watching Suzume, and despite having to fly solo due to my friends' prejudices against anime, I was pleasantly surprised by this film. The animation was top-notch and really brought the story to life. Speaking of the story, it was incredibly engaging and kept me hooked from beginning to end. I was also pleasantly surprised by the level of comedy sprinkled throughout the movie. It added a nice touch of lightheartedness to the overall tone of the film
Even though I watched Suzume alone, I couldn't help but imagine how much more fun it would have been to share this experience with friends. But, regardless of my lonely viewing, I would still highly recommend this movie to anyone. Don't let anyone else's opinion hold you back from seeing it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. So don't wait for anyone else, just go watch Suzume!
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
Fun comedy and decent action but lacking in story progression
Shazam 2 is a fun-filled movie that delivers on its promise of great comedy and decent action. The film follows the adventures of the lovable superhero Billy Batson and his team of friends as they try to save the world from gods.
The humor in Shazam 2 is top-notch, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments that will leave you in stitches. The comedic timing of the cast is spot-on, and they deliver their lines with perfect precision. The action scenes, while not groundbreaking, are still enjoyable and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
However, one thing that the movie lacks is a sense of story progression. It feels like the film is treading the same ground as the first one, and it ends up at the same point as the first movie did. This can be a bit disappointing for those looking for a more substantial story.
Despite this, Shazam 2 is still a fun and entertaining movie that is definitely worth watching, especially if you're a fan of the first one. The cast's chemistry is excellent, and the comedy and action are both on point. Overall, it's a worthy addition to the Shazam franchise.
Eres tú (2023)
No Love No Laugh
I recently watched the movie "Love at First Kiss," and to be frank, it was a complete disaster. From the very beginning, it was evident that the movie lacked any substantial plot or character development. The writing was amateurish at best, and it felt as though the writers had no idea what they were doing.
The poor plot twists were poor and uninteresting, and the lack of comedy also left me bored and uninterested throughout the entire movie. As for the so-called "romance," it was lackluster and completely unconvincing. The chemistry between the lead actors was non-existent, and it felt as though they were going through the motions without any real passion or emotion.
Overall, it was a poor movie, and I couldn't help but wonder what the writer was thinking. It seemed as though they were trying to create a romantic comedy, but failed miserably in every aspect. The lack of creativity and effort put into the movie was disappointing, and I would not recommend it to anyone. Save your time and watch something else.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
A Decent Start to Phase 5, But Falls Short of Potential
This is a decent movie, but it leaves something to be desired. The story feels incomplete and there are moments when it feels like there should be more to the plot. The action scenes are also lacking in excitement, and there are moments when it seems like the movie is holding back on delivering the full potential.
However, the movie does provide a good start to Phase 5, and it does introduce some interesting new characters and concepts that may play a significant role in future Marvel movies. The performances by the actors are strong, and there are some moments of humor that are genuinely funny.
Overall, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania falls short of its potential, but it is still an enjoyable watch for Marvel fans. It's worth seeing for the introduction of new elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it doesn't quite live up to the high expectations set by previous Marvel movies.
Pathaan (2023)
Something is wrong with Bollywood
I recently watched the Bollywood film "Pathaan" and unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. I'm someone who is not a fan of Sharukh, it's been a long time since I've seen any extraordinary movie of his. But due to the hype, I decided to give this film a chance. However, I was left feeling quite underwhelmed.
Firstly, the story of the film is quite weak. It's just another copy of Hollywood spy movies like "Mission Impossible." The plot is full of inconsistencies and is riddled with holes. The film tries to be too convoluted, and it becomes hard to keep up with what's happening on screen. The logic in the film is also quite poor, and it makes it hard to take the film seriously.
Furthermore, the acting in the film is quite mediocre. Sharukh, in particular, seems to be going through the motions, and doesn't bring any real emotion or depth to his character. The supporting cast is also quite weak, and the film suffers as a result.
Additionally, the special effects and VFX in the film are quite poor. The film seems to be relying too heavily on CGI, and it takes away from the overall experience. The film is also overhyped, and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Lastly, it's quite clear that only blind fans and pr team of Sharukh are overhyping this movie. The movie lacks many key elements that are crucial for a successful film and is just another copy of Hollywood spy movies. I think something is wrong with Bollywood, and this film is a prime example of that. I would not recommend this film to anyone.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Disappointing Execution: A Film Filled with Clichés and Poor Dialogue
The plot had potential, but it was poorly executed. Instead of exploring the interesting ideas presented in the trailer, the film devolved into a cliche love story. The dialogue was poorly written and did not align with the story. It felt forced and unnatural, making it difficult to connect with the characters.
The visual effects were good, but they did not enhance the film. They were used to create flashy scenes, but they did not add to the story or the characters. In fact, some of the VFX seemed out of place, detracting from the overall experience.
Another major problem with the film was the lack of originality. Some scenes and characters seemed to be copy-pasting from Hollywood superhero movies, making the film feel uninspired and unoriginal.
The acting was subpar, particularly from Alia Bhatt. I found her performance to be wooden and lacking in emotion. Her character was one-dimensional and didn't have much depth. Other actors also had similar performances which made the film hard to connect with.
Overall, the movie had potential but it failed to deliver. It was a disappointment. The poorly executed plot, bad dialogue, uninspired scenes and characters, and subpar acting made it difficult to enjoy. Despite the good VFX, it could not save the film. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.
TVF Pitchers: The Pivot (2022)
Totally unrealistic
First of all, it is the 21st century and almost everyone has a laptop or some sort of portable device that allows them to work remotely. There was no reason why these employees couldn't simply take their work home with them or find a nearby coffee shop to work in. Instead, they were forced to sleep in a cramped and uncomfortable office space.
Furthermore, there was no explanation given as to why the employees couldn't simply work long hours and then go home to sleep in their own beds. It seemed as though the episode was trying to create a comical situation out of something that is actually quite common and mundane.
