This is by no means my favorite Pixar movie. Or one of my favorite animated movies in general. But after watching it months ago, I thought I should write a review.
This was a vivid and beautiful movie with stunning visuals. The storyline was rather simple and I felt that it could have a little more depth to it.
I know this sounds like a six or seven star review, but there were quite a few endearing moments. Arlo had such a great relationship with his family, especially his father. It was very complex.
SPOILER-the sacrifice of his father for him was bittersweet.
I also love the dynamic between Arlo and the human boy. I feel like because of Arlo's loss, he knows how important it is to protect others, even those he considers his enemies.
But the ending made me cry. It really did! I wasn't bawling, but I shed a few. No Pixar movie has made me cry before, not even Finding Nemo, Inside Out, or Elemental, some of my favorites. Well done, Pixar.
All in all, I recommend you check it out. It doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.
