Saturday Night Live: Shane Gillis/21 Savage (2024)

Easily The Best Episode This Season
29 February 2024
The one thing I've learned after watching this episode is this: Unfunny people like to review-bomb too. This episode is a 10/10. From a great monologue, funny sketches, and hilarious bits that didn't even make it to the show (Limu Emu), Shane Gillis carried this entire series in his first episode since his firing. He made SNL and Michaels & Co. Really regret their decision. This felt like SNL in the 90s. It was funny, it was silly, it was everything you hoped for and looked forward while the weekdays moved closer to Saturday night. Controversies aside, whether they were even valid or not for the punishment, this episode was a win for comedy.

Very delightful and poetic film
22 June 2023
This movie is a subtle joy to watch. It doesn't go over any boundaries and stays on the line of where the characters are in their lives, and the escapism within their tiny connection. The script is precise and the scenes are never rushed, and always get the point across. The calm Parisian background is nice alongside the great cinematography. The musical choices are a pretty touch, and some moments are different with a welcoming twist. For a first film, I think Suzanne knocked it out of the park. Her acting and delivery was sincere and spot on, same for Arnaud Valois. It was a sweet telling of curious love.

The Show Thrives When It Focuses On Midge, Susie, and Comedy
28 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was pretty nervous to tune in this week after a disappointing episode prior, especially after a strong start with the first three. Granted, it set up story lines coming forth but there was wasted minutes on broadway and spectacle that didn't feel necessary for a show on its final backstretch.

This episode was an improvement with the only blemish being Zelda's wedding. It's a sequence the Maisel writers just can't seem to get away from, making the parents and in-laws completely obnoxious with forced humor during a gleaming moment for someone else's life, who's done so much for them. At least Zelda has a happy ending.

As far as Joel goes with the flash forward, it's probably no surprise he'll get in some trouble with the mobsters, but he'll also always love Midge. I do really enjoy Michael Zegen in every scene he's in so I'm engaged with his story.

Susie is a force to be wrecking with. Work is overflowing and she's accomplishing what she's always set out to do from the start. The scenes with her associates and other clients were well done with Alex Borstein leading the way with the humorous moments and banter.

Midge was better this episode. The boat scene and everything after with stand up and scenes with Gordon Ford gave me a sigh of relief especially after seeing her asleep in the first scene of present day. I just wish the writers knew in the beginning if Midge is a good person or not throughout this struggle for stardom. We know she isn't in the flash forwards, but will there be a push come to shove scenario in present day in future episodes?

We will find out. 9/10.

Don't Let The Salty Jedi Fans/Dull Streamers Bring This Film Down
29 December 2022
Rian Johnson writes and directs another instant classic. A film that will leave you struck as the credits roll reminding why we love movies. A fleshed out tour de force plot with characters and backstory that makes every second engaging and captivating. The filmmaking, sets, cinematography, plot twists, comedic bits, and all around stellar acting is perfected as much as the original Knvies Out. It makes Blanc's journey as the world's greatest detective leaving you wanting more of these movies. Wish I could've seen this in theaters. With this top notch quality, it deserves a proper theatrical run. For eyes that love cinema. Who get out of the house and know film. Any review under an 8 is a lie.
