Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Dreams in the Witch House (2022)
Lovecraft does not approve.
You are a huge Lovecraft fan for decades and you love Dreams in the Witchhouse? Go read that book or listen to the audiobook, because there is no Lovecraft found in this episode. Someone took the name of the story and some of the characters, mushed it up with a master trash idea of a generic ghost story and put it all in a blender.
Keziah is the poor mans version of a fire atronach from Skyrim, Brown Jenkin is way too small and does nothing at all and by the way, there are no visits to another alien dimension at all, just some lame forest, labeled as Limbo. Lovecraft didn't create a sense of afterlife in his whole work.
Lovecraft does not approve to this utterly disgrace.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Pickman's Model (2022)
Watered down version, not the real story.
I get, that they wanted to create a new Story, based on the original one by H. P. Lovecraft. The haunter in the dark and Pickman's Model are my two favourite Lovecraft stories of all time. I was looking forward to watch this episode and was utterly disappointed.
No subway, not even the special paintings and the model looks completely different than in the book.
There are no girlfriends, or even kids in the original story. The story takes places after all the artists are professional artists, not at the Miscatonic university. Furthermore Thurber doesn't suffer from hallucinations, so at least 90 % of this episode is generic filler material. What a shame! I like the series in general, but if they use Lovecraft stories, they should tell the real story, not some watered down version.
Nontheless, the music is nice and the Lovecraftian atmosphere is there, 5 out of 10 stars.
