Next Friday (2000)
Friday... time to hit the highway
I've found there are two personalities out there: those who like the first film, and those who prefer the second film. I like the first Friday, but I love the second film much more. Chris Tucker is not in this film, and thats OK with me. I liked his character of Smokey, but I was pleasantly surprised with Mike Epps' character of Day-Day who stole the show. Right off the bat, you'll either like his comedic style or you wont. The plot of moving out of the hood is very believable, so Craig's experience with his extended family is a welcome addition to the Friday story. DC Curry did a great job as Uncle Elroy and was extremely funny. Uncle's wife Suga played by Kim Whitley was also very funny. All 3 of the Joker Brothers added a lot of comedic moments to the film. Not to mention they still retained Deebo (and his brother) in the story, who both did great jobs. Watch the film with an open mind and you're guaranteed to enjoy it. Just whatever you do, dont make the mistake of constantly comparing it with the first movie. Next Friday stands alone quite well.
The Janky Promoters (2009)
Fun movie
I watched this movie hoping the negative reviews were making it sound worse than it really is, and I was right. The movie is actually a good movie, or pretty decent. I didn't expect this film to be like the Friday films, which I also am a big fan of. But instead, just watched it because I like Ice Cube and Mike Epps. Being a fan of both, this movie was just more clowning, good story, and funny entertainment. I don't know why people are saying its stereotypical. I mean, who cares.. its just fun.
Nice character development and overall well written. Its got its high and low moments, and an ending that is kinda predictable but I didn't think that took away anything from the film. If you like Ice Cube and Mike Epps, give it a watch.
